My Fur babies looking for rare squirrels at the Grand Canyon.

- Day Four -

We started our day early and headed east towards Glacier National Park. Instead of taking the main road to the entrance, I suggested driving the longer way around to explore, why not? We are glad we took the path less traveled because we saw some awesome sights all around the Apgar Mountains!

We spoke to an older man fishing on Greenbrier River before approaching this place. A simple 'catch anything?' turned into swapping stories and then him explaining how busy the sawmill used to be, seeing as his father used to work there long ago. He was a local man that lived in Pocahontas County all his life. It was genuine & kind exchange, leading us to explore the abandon even closer.

We drove down February 25, 2024 for our honeymoon and with each winding turn, the mountains were surrounding us more and more. There were so many cabins in the distance, pastures, and quiet stretches of road where we were the only one driving for miles. There were very few small towns. Definitely Country Roads! We giggled, listened to music, and talked the whole time, randomly seeing a mountain or rock face and getting excited.

Everyday we found a new adventure (after taking advantage of the complimentary breakfast each morning, of course) whether it was seeking waterfalls, hiking, playing on the swings, snowboarding, sledding, or exploring railroads. We watched the sunset over the mountains each night of the week we were there, and left the fireplace lit all night to keep us warm. First of many adventures as husband & wife!

- Day Four -

We parked at a little picnic area on Two Medicine Lake. When we walked down to the shore it was absolutely breathtaking. The breeze from the water, the crisp air on our skin, the smell of pine & sweet grass. Everything about this place was majestic. We felt totally alive, we danced, we hugged, we sang. I even splashed a handful of water on my face just to feel refreshed. I always wanted to witness a place like this in my lifetime, and we did. There is truly no place like Montana.

- Day Three -

The day started off a bit rainy and cloudy, but cleared up as we checked out some antique stores in the area. The sun began to shine through and we ended up having a gorgeous boat tour of Flathead Lake!

- Day Two -

We rode a gondola lift to the top of Big Mountain & saw some of the most fascinating sights of my life. Mountains as far as you could possibly see. Words & photographs do no justice.

The Maldives is a long stretch of small islands in which boasts many island resorts. We had a reservation for the next two nights but since these resorts are so expensive we opted to stay the first night on the main island in a hostel. I mean honestly, if you paying for an over the water bungalow what's the point of paying for a night when you arrive at midnight?

Mini Series: Evening Drive

It was one of those days CJ and I didn’t want to lay around the apartment after work, so we hopped in the jeep and drove. We followed random country roads, eventually leading to the Mason-Dixon line. It was a peaceful, simple evening and one of our favorite things to do.

"The Franklin Institute’s four-story Foucault’s Pendulum mimics an experiment undertaken by French physicist Jean-Bernard-Leon Foucault early in 1851. The experiment proved the nature of the Earth’s daily rotation around its axis. The fact that the Earth is spinning and the pendulum is swinging creates this interesting effect. At 9:30 am, the museum starts the pendulum swinging in a North-South direction. During the day, the pendulum knocks down a peg every 20-25 minutes, making it appear to change direction. By 5:00 pm, half of the pegs have been knocked down."

- Day Three -

Our adventure on day two led us all the way south through the Great Smokies and back. We enjoyed a relaxing night at Berry Springs Lodge and scouted out our adventure for the next day. Day three, we decided to head east, around the National Park instead.

We began in Gatlinburg, stopping at a few overlooks and admiring the town from above. We then followed Little River east, hiked at a few stops (Mom relaxed in her stone chair!), checked out Elkmont Campground, and eventually we made it to a man-made waterfall from the 1800s, "The Sinks".

We headed out of the National Park toward Townsend, a quaint little mountain town and onto Foothills Parkway, which skirted around the Great Smokies. It was a perfect road for bikers and sightseers. There were not many tourists at all but so many beautiful stops and overlooks.

One place in particular was Look Rock Tower, which was too high for Mom, but I had to check it out. I could see the highest peaks of the Smokies and an awesome panoramic view! After I came back down to find her, she had found some cool rocks to climb, lizards, and neat mushrooms for me to photograph.

We drove Foothills Parkway as far as we could, finally ending at Chillhowee Lake.

Mini Series: Downtown

This series was photographed in March 2018. Ben, an old friend of mine, was in Maryland for work. He was helping set up and manage a new shop in Columbia. He had never been to Maryland before and asked to meet up. I had never personally been to Ellicott City before, but my parents were married there. They told me it’s a rustic town that I would love photographing, so I asked if Ben would check it out with me. The area we explored sits in the woods with a creek/river running right through main street. We roamed downtown - the bridges, alleyways, abandoned buildings, parks, and the old train station. It was a quiet and mysterious place, like a setting Ben or I used to write about when we exchanged our fictional writing to each other. The town floods frequently and many places were boarded up, but we did find some really neat antique shops and enjoyed exploring this dreary, ominous city.
