My goal on this chilly morning was to photograph some barred owls at Wyandotte County Lake. I went to the spot where they have been known and seen hanging out for several days, but I came away with nothing but this sunrise image of this cove.
My goal for 2016 was to lose just 10 pounds … only 15 to go .
Ate salad for dinner…Mostly croutons & tomatoes...really just one big, round crouton covered with tomato sauce...and cheese.. FINE, it was a pizza...I ate a pizza….
Helgoland series: Couple goals
Last April I visited the Northern Gannets (Morus bassanus) on Helgoland. I spent almost a week watching their mating and bonding rituals and the tenderness between the breeding partners. It was so much fun - just sitting there and watching them ... there are still many pictures on my hard drive, but I can't bring myself to process them. Knowing that many of the beautiful birds I photographed in April died in the following months breaks my heart. This colony (as so many others) was severely hit by an outbreak of the Avian Flu in 2022.
Another wonderful goal achieved!
Thank so much to each of you who keep me inspire every day and motivate me to do better and better!
... And thanks to my first sponsor NVUS - Tattoos & art that every day trusts this little crazy girl!!!
Today too we don't give up!
GOLD DIGGER CASTING: Giselle Chauveau

I haven't got any grand travel plans for 2025. But that's OK as looking closer to home offers many possibilities. I would like to shoot more Jurassic Coast, Dartmoor and Cornwall.
And Somerset - I will be keeping a close eye on the redevelopment of this pier. I can't believe I have not shot Glastonbury Tor and then there is those skeleton trees near Exmoor.
So lots to think about and hopefully this Twixmas gloomy weather will pass. Please join me if anyone finds themselves down my way.
On another note will this Gavin and Stacey hype ever end? Only mentioning it as this is dead opposite Barry Island.
Shooting macro is incredible fun
Suddenly things are popping up
I see a person and a ball
What do you see?
(Obviously not easy to say anything here, as I see comments are coming but they keep disappearing all the time....)
Across a recently frozen wetland pond, a solitary barn rests quietly with no promise of activity for the next months as nature provides punishment for those of us living in Minnesota.
Snow will inevitably pile up on the roof and will remain there until strong winds move it or the warming temperatures of spring signal its demise. No animals inside will ever again create warmth as they once did.
The beginning of a new year often propels people to set goals for the upcoming months. The goals change throughout our lives. When we are younger our eyes are set on a future that seems unlimited and we have days stretched out before us in which we either achieve lofty goals or come close to reaching them even when we fail.
Young farmers normally start out with little more than a strong back, a supportive spouse and dreams of enlarging their tent stakes as they develop a farm from eking out a living into a more prosperous quality of life.
But as their family grows and then shrinks as the kids mature and move away, a farmer’s goals change and unless one of the children joins him in running the farm, things begin to lessen in intensity as the farmer begins the inevitable slow stride toward retirement.
As we age many of us reach a point where our goals become very simple and mirror that of this barn, simply making it through another year with a supportive spouse who has chosen to walk this planet with us the majority of our lives.

I recently participated in the RebelLUG "So Uncivilized" collaboration, the goal of which was to build various blasters from Star Wars. I built the E-11, the gun that stormtroopers used. I must confess that I know almost nothing at all about guns, but think I did pretty well basing it off of some reference images. While it was an enjoyable experience, it was probably also my most challenging creation I've ever made. Also, credit to Nick Jensen for the fantastic editing job. I hope you like it!

A goal for this year is to improve my Milkyway photography. This is one of the times where I thought that a lens that I don't have would make a difference. I bought a 12mm f2.0. which on micro 4/3 is like a 24mm full frame lens. The lens I've been using is a 17mm f1.8. (Like a 35mm lens on FF) My frustration with the 17mm lens is that it's really not wide enough which means that I often need to stitch photos to get a wide enough view. But that doesn't always work well. Also, in order to get an exposure where the stars don't appear to move I'm limited to a 13 second exposure. This requires a minimum ISO of 1600 which underexposes and leaves some significant noise. Unfortunately, boosting the ISO doesn't really help. The 12mm allows a 20 second exposure - almost double the time and gives a wider view without having to stitch. This picture is the result of an experiment done a couple mornings ago. It's a 5 image stack to reduce noise. The picture was taken on the edge of a red zone on the "Dark Sky Map". I should not have been able to see the Milkyway, so I was delighted to be able to faintly make it out in the night sky, and it was more obvious on the camera screen.
To my surprise, each of the 5 photos had at least one shooting star. There is one on the right margin that was very bright and was the only one I saw with my eyes. The camera caught the very end of it's flight. I liked the shooting stars so much I left them in on the composite.
I can see some elongation of the stars, so I should try a little shorter exposure, but all in all I'm pleased with the result.

My goal with this series is to explore every day scenes under the cover of darkness. A street corner, a lamp post, a doorway. Big city, small town, urban, rural. Man-made light versus nature’s darkness–––light and shadow interpreting minimalist settings in black and white. To see more in this series, check out Cover Of Darkness
Early on in the COVER OF NIGHT series, I shot a couple gas stations. They were not initially the type scene I was looking to capture, but when I came across one late at night, bright and isolated in the darkness, it was impossible for me to resist, so I continue to shoot them. I have now shot enough that they have become a series-within-the-series. For a look at them as a collection, check out, Gas Stations
So here we are... achievement unlocked: 7000 followers. Thank you all, truly, I'm overwhelmed with the love <3.
Some of us have personal goals that we set for ourselves, long ago, I had descided that this was it, and now that I'm here... I'm not really sure what to do with myself.
A few things are coming to mind: Continue blogging for a few of my long-term sponsors and events, possibly get back into creating some new BOM stuff, or straight out retire.
Maybe it's a ten year itch, a Mid-(second)Life-Crisis... who knows, it will likely pass... just know that I have no more expectations of myself or anyone else, it's super empowering.
