For this little guy, 'going in' is for whatever is of interest on the surface of the water.
Amazing to watch them dart from the tree branch down to the surface of the water, and then dart back up again.
I think this and the previous shot are the only ones I managed to get with the bird just over the water. Certainly is a quick moving bird to say the least!
btw, anyone know the ID of this bird?

Recently my daughter told me she found a bookstore that sold old books and she wanted to take me there...priceless. We went a few days later and she found, buried among the stacks, Go Ask Alice. The author was Anonymous and that intrigued her enough to want to read it. I knew some things about that book but wanted her discover it for herself so said nothing. She devoured it in 2 days and after she finished it today said she thought it was really great. I then told her there are some people who think that it is a fiction written by an adult not the diary of a teen going through drug addiction. She said she feels it's definitely a teenager's words and it seems very real to her. That the book spoke to her and had an impact on her is really the important part. I left it at that.

I don't really need to say much here. It was snowing most of the day and while being agitatedly watched by his partner, this swan decided to go on a walkabout on the frozen lake.

Historic Village of Shirakawa-gō ( a UNESCO World Heritage Site)
Shirakawa-go (Shirakawa Village) is a Japanese mountain settlement in what was once considered a wild and unexplored region. Because of the area’s natural environment, with high mountains and heavy snowfall, interaction with neighboring regions was limited. However, this also created the conditions for the development of unique cultural practices and lifestyles. Now registered as a World Cultural Heritage site.

I'm sure most of us see images everyday that inspire us and remind us of many things. I wanted to go to the beach today and I never did get there so I went to the archive beach. Many of my beach images I had in mind and were looking for were no where to be found which means those were the ones I lost in my hard drive crash about 2 years ago. So, I had this image on Flickr below that I downloaded back and had some fun with textures. I really like working with textures. There happens to be 4 of them here with different capacities and brushes. I stopped working on this image when the colors hit that chord in me. I know I could of kept going but I told myself no. I look forward to some more beach images to work on soon and I'll get to the beach to take some fresh images soon.

Wiki - The Historic Villages of Shirakawa-gō and Gokayama are one of Japan's UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The site is located in the Shogawa river valley stretching across the border of Gifu and Toyama Prefectures in central Japan. Shirakawa-gō (白川郷, "White River Old-District") is located in the village of Shirakawa in Gifu Prefecture.
These villages are well known for their houses constructed in the architectural style known as gasshō-zukuri (合掌造り). The Gasshō-zukuri, "prayer-hands construction" style is characterized by a thatched and steeply slanting roof resembling two hands joined in prayer. The design is exceptionally strong and, in combination with the unique properties of the thatching, allow the houses to withstand and shed the weight of the region's heavy snowfalls in winter.
The houses are large, with three to four stories encompassed between the low eaves, and historically intended to house large extended families and a highly efficient space for a variety of industries. The densely forested mountains of the region still occupy 96% of all land in the area, and prior to the introduction of heavy earth-moving machinery, the narrow bands of flat lands running the length of the river valley limited the area available for agriculture and homestead development. The upper storeys of the gasshō houses were usually set aside for sericulture, while the areas below the first (ground) floor were often used for the production of nitre, one of the raw materials needed for the production of gunpowder.
