Fountain at Glen Iris, with Jason taking a shot. As big as one local has ever seen, he claimed, in 70-odd years of life.
Grandpa Bill (William McMahon) taking his grandson Brendan Ryan for a wheelbarrow ride in the back yard of the family home at 17 Hazeldine Rd, Glen Iris, Victoria, Australia.
This was the original home of William Pryor Letchworth, who donated the land for the park to New York State. His home now contains a gift shop and restaurant.
This is a view of the Middle Falls at Letchworth State Park. It is the highest of the three falls which are located in the park. It has a drop of 107 feet. You will notice the very high Portage Bridge in the far distance. Now a little bit of history: In the 1850's a complex of mills clung to the riverbank near the Middle Falls. The Middle Falls was a source of power, running mills that turned the forests into lumber demanded by towns and cities. Near the Middle Falls you will find the Glen Iris Inn. This is the restored historic former home of William Pryor Letchworth, who the park is named for. He bequeathed his 1000 acre estate that forms the heart of the park to New York State in 1907. Letchworth first purchased land near the Portage Falls in 1859 and began work on Glen Iris. He made arrangements to deter commericial businesses from damaging the fragile nature of the gorge and surrounding woodlands.
The Council House, Letchworth State Park, NY. The building originally stood on the former Caneadea Indian Reservation and was moved in 1872 to William Pryor Letchworth's Glen Iris estate. Over the ensuing years descendents of the original Seneca Indians met on the Council House grounds to celebrate their heritage.
Photographed at Glen Iris. Taking shelter (or hiding from the camera guy) in the safety of the enclosed yard of the one building (not sure what) west of the one lake.
