It's been a really good summer.

Time is flying though and there's still so much that I want to do.

I hope you're enjoying it as much as I am.

I've really been having a great time shooting out on the street and sharing these photographs with you guys.

"Faces on the street" has opened up so many doors and brought so much positivity to my life.

It's been such an incredible journey and you've always been the inspiration.

I only hope to give back more than I've been given.

It would feel good to complete the 'karmic circle.'

BLMERS #GIVINGBACK: A VETERAN HELPING VETERANS IN HIS COMMUNITY

In November, Adrian Grayshield, Assistant Fire Management Officer with Bureau of Indian Affairs and Carson District BLM, had the privilege to volunteer six hours for the Northern Nevada Veteran’s Coalition “Heroes Hand Up” program. This program puts families on the path to home-ownership by providing a rent-free home, for up to a year, while veterans gain employment and work to become financially stable.

The volunteer work Adrian was a part of included interior painting, demolition, roof repairs, yard cleanup, and exterior paint preparation. The hope was to have the home ready for a family by Christmas.

“I most enjoyed working with a wide range of individuals on the house project,” Adrian said. “Most everyone working on the project was a Veteran and it made me proud to have served in the military.”

BLMERS #GIVINGBACK: Spreading Good Cheer All Year!

“What to my wondering eyes should appear,” but a fire truck all alight with Christmas Cheer and Old St. Nick riding to deliver packages to the children of Valdez, Alaska.

One of Santa’s helpers is BLM Alaska Branch of Pipeline Monitoring employee Rhonda R. Williams. As Vice President of the Port Valdez chapter of the Alaska State Firefighters Association and a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for the Valdez Fire Department, she helps organize the annual “Santa Snow Town Deliveries” event. Members of the community nominate specific children and donate the gifts they want Santa to deliver. Rhonda loads the presents up and drives the truck.

The Alaska State Chapter and Port Valdez Chapter of firefighters also participate in fundraisers throughout the year to support a local smoke detector replacement program, a children’s eyeglass program, fire relief, and fund scholarships.

The holiday season is not the only time Rhonda gives back to her community. She volunteers year round as an EMT. At times, she has worked around the clock after responding to an overnight fire or accident in the Valdez area. Rhonda serves as a volunteer EMT at the Valdez Winter Carnival’s Polar Bear Splash-In and for local snow mobile races. She has also provided safety and first aid classes for the Coast Guard in Valdez.

UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals Notes & Words After Party on March 25th 2023 Oakland

They too, are created by the same loving hand of God which Created us...It is our duty to Protect Them and to promote their well-being.”—Mother Teresa.

Year 5 of 365: Life, Love, and the Pursuit of Happiness

Last year I added a lifetime dream to commit one million acts of kindness to my fellow man or woman. Wow… that’s a lot. If I did one kind thing every day it would take me 2, 739 years to complete this dream. If I did 10 per day that’s still 273 years, and 100 per day would still take me just under 30 years. This is one of those dreams that I have- but I don’t really plan on completing it, just working towards it.

I think we’re put on this Earth to give something back to one another- friend, foe, stranger, or familiar. And I think that kindness is contagious. When someone is nice and does something for you- or even if you see someone doing something nice, it makes you want to do it in return and do it more. Once you get in the habit of doing it- you breed it. You crave it. You feel amazing.

I was not always so selfless, and have my moment of thinking about myself. But I have learned from my mistakes, and want to put a little light back into this world.

In the wake of the tragedy of what happened in Connecticut, I have committed to doing 26 acts of kindness every day this year. It’s a start, and maybe it will catch on to others. My heart breaks for those lost souls, and this will be my way of giving back, honoring their memory, and chasing this lifetime dream.

“Sometimes the point of a journey is the experience in travel; the point to achieving a goal is what you learn along the way more than the goal itself...”

BLMERS #GIVINGBACK: Kemmerer Celebrates Christmas with Kids from YAHA

The BLM Kemmerer Field Office in Wyoming donated Christmas presents to the youth currently at the Youth Alternative Home Association (YAHA), in Evanston, Wyoming. YAHA is a nonprofit group home for troubled or neglected youth. Many of the children spend Christmas away from their families and can be forgotten.

“You guys doing what you have done again for these young people allows them to see the good in our society,” said Karen Fry, YAHA Executive Director. “These actions by KFO over the past few years helps support my message to kids about love and generosity during the holiday season.”

This year, at least four gifts were given to each 16-year-old Josh, 16-year-old Skylar, 17-year-old Tiffany, and 18-year-old Ashely. Josh loves art, skiing, hiking and received art and camping supplies, a jacket, jeans, and a shirt. Skylar has a western style and likes working with his hands, and received a wood craft kit, plaid western shirts, and a gift card to Murdoch’s. Tiffany loves reading, outdoors, art, music and exercise and was given a stuffed sloth, a watch, historical books, and coloring book and supplies. Ashely is a working college student who just moved into an apartment. She received earrings, a fuzzy blanket and socks. The children loved their gifts and KFO is pleased to have let the kids enjoy a Christmas they may not have had otherwise.

Last night the RCR team were on-hand as VIPs for the opening of the "Mermaid Museum" to promote the new mermaid drama “Siren,” on Freeform. The event is co-hosted by PopSugar and creates an immersive mermaid museum here in the heart of Hollywood. Best part... it is now open to the public from March 22nd to the 25th for fans to experience unique photo installations, illusions, and a live mermaid.

Screening the first three episodes, we can tell you that this is a really exciting new "original" series for lovers of "fanta-sea" and tales of mermaids. It's original, action packed and very engaging. There are twists, turns and lots of nailbiting scenes that will keep you wondering what will happen next...

Talking to the cast at the party was also a treat, they are very excited to see more fan reactions when the series premieres.

Freeform's Upcoming Drama 'Siren' Premieres on International Mermaid Day, March 29, with a Special Two-Hour Premiere

About the Mermaid Museum in Hollywood

Open to the public from March 22 to the 25, the free ticketed event will celebrate the mythological, mysterious, and beloved creatures with over five activations and celebrate the upcoming International Mermaid Day, which coincides with the series premiere on March 29. Featuring a live mermaid, a speakeasy-inspired fishing store, numerous photo structures and a 360° underwater immersive experience; the museum will celebrate and bring mermaid culture to life.

Giving Back

In celebration of sea creatures everywhere, Freeform will make a donation to Heal the Bay to help keep Los Angeles’ coastal waters and watersheds safe, healthy and clean. Additionally, the live mermaid will be swimming in a custom-built tank filled with 4,800 gallons of water which, at the end of the exhibition, will be donated to TreePeople. The water will go into a cistern at their facility in Los Angeles and will be used to water the surrounding landscape enjoyed by tens of thousands of hikers every year.

“Siren” premieres on International Mermaid Day, March 29 (8:00 - 10:00 p.m.), with a special two-hour event.

More About “Siren”

This series takes us inside Bristol Cove—a coastal town known for its legend of once being home to mermaids. When the arrival of a mysterious girl proves this folklore all too true, the battle between man and sea takes a very vicious turn as these predatory beings return to reclaim their right to the ocean. The series stars Alex Roe (“The 5th Wave”) as Ben, a bright marine biologist who finds himself drawn to Ryn, a mysterious new girl in town played by Eline Powell (“Game of Thrones”), who is a strange young woman with a deep dark secret. Fola Evans-Akingbola (“An American Exorcism”) stars as Maddie, also a marine biologist who works with Ben, and is highly suspicious of Ryn. Ian Verdun (“Life’s a Drag”) stars as Xander, a deep sea fisherman on a quest to uncover the truth; and Rena Owen (“Star Wars” Episodes II and III) as Helen, the town eccentric who seems to know more about the mermaids than she lets on.

Based on a story by Eric Wald and Dean White who both serve as executive producers. Emily Whitesell (“Finding Carter”) is on board as showrunner and executive producer. Brad Luff, Nate Hopper and RD Robb are also attached as executive producers.

BLMERS #GIVINGBACK: BLM Nevada Employee Gives Young Campers a Chance for Fun

Since 2009, BLM Nevada’s Kelly Orr has been volunteering at Camp Sunshine, a camp for children with cancer located in Georgia. Here’s what Kelly does one week of every summer, in her own words:

"While at camp I serve as a cabin counselor for 7-9 year old girls and I’m with them 24/7, which is incredibly fun and rewarding, but also exhausting! We spend the week going to a variety of different activities - biking, horseback riding, climbing wall, arts and crafts, pool, canoeing, karate, and many more. Since there is a Doctor and team of nurses always at camp, campers who are still on treatment can even receive chemotherapy or blood transfusions in the morning, and be back out at an activity in the afternoon. In the evenings, when the pool party or carnival or other evening activity is over, we get to spend some quiet time in the cabin recapping the day and hearing about whatever the campers want to talk about - whether it’s favorite songs, or homesickness, or what it was like to have cancer.

One of the really cool things about Camp Sunshine is that it’s held at a camp facility that is completely ADA accessible (Camp Twin Lakes) and that has different tools and equipment to ensure that every camper can participate in every activity, regardless of physical or mental limitations. This year I watched as one of my campers, a girl who went blind from a brain tumor, rode a bike for the very first time! She had some help steering, thanks to an adapted bike, and was able to ride all over camp. The smile on her face as people cheered her on is something I will never forget. Camp Sunshine is also incredible in that it’s offered free of charge to all of the campers. Knowing that their families are already being pushed to the limit with hospital stays and other medical bills, Camp Sunshine covers the full cost of camp for every camper so that these kids can have a much deserved week of “normalcy” and experience what other kids their age get to do each summer.

I first heard about Camp Sunshine in 1995 when I was diagnosed with a blood disorder and was treated on the hematology/oncology floor of the hospital. I attended Camp Sunshine as a camper for 11 years, worked at the camp facility each summer during college, and have volunteered as a cabin counselor ever since then - it is hard to believe that Camp Sunshine has been a part of my life for 20 years. I know first-hand how life changing this camp can be for children going through a tough situation, and it is so rewarding to be able to give back to the organization that gave me so much. The week I spend at Camp Sunshine each summer is my favorite week of the year and I will continue to volunteer my time in support of this organization for as long as I possibly can!”

Team building’s a journey, not a destination. Part of our ongoing wellness activities offered throughout the year, the 42nd annual L.A. Chinatown Firecracker Run was a great way for our associates to bond as they ran and walked through historic parts of the city, including Elysian Park, Historic Chinatown, Dodger Stadium, Figueroa Tunnel and Angel's Point!
