I was given these brass figurines from a co-worker who left the firm that I work for a few years ago. Before I gave them away and just keeping the German Shepherd one (my favorite) I photographed them. Here is the German Shepherd.
Bergen has given a warm welcome to its visitors for more than 900 years. Bryggen has become a symbol of our cultural heritage and has gained a place on UNESCO's World Heritage List.
The old Hanseatic wharf is architecturally unique and is perhaps one of the most familiar image in all of Norway.
Ever since the intrepid King Olav Kyrre sailed into the harbour and founded the city in 1070, Bergen has attracted people from all quarters of the world. Some came and went, others decided to make Bergen their home. Bergensers travelled abroad and learned and so Bergen became a melting-pot of cultures and Norway's most international city.
Bergen grew up around its colourful harbour - it was the hub of commerce, seafaring and crafts-manship. We became the north's largest city, Norway's first capital city and the seat of royalty. So important was Bergen by the 13th century that the Hansas - the German medieval guild of merchants - opened one of their four European offices on the wharf called Bryggen.
Some of the Hansas chose to become Bergensers. And so have many others throughout the centuries. But Bryggen stays the same, its contour just as it was in the 11th century, untouched by shifting times. It has become a symbol of our cultural heritage and has gained a place on UNESCO's World Heritage List. Bergen has become a World Heritage City.
Side view of the chest armor mold. I tried to replicate stormtrooper armor so that I could use the same mold for both costumes. It is too wide, too deep, to "cut" and too tall.
She was Caddie's sister. They would follow each other around when they weren't following me. She was my companion for close to 15 years. She new when it was time for bed and would come get me every night. She would cuddle and sleep next to me every night and she would sit in the window next to the computer and keep me company when she wasn't laying on my bed. I am so going to miss her. Given the size of the Althoff Seehotel Ãœberfahrt, the dining room of its most famous restaurant was comparably small. It could cover more than 30 people with not-so-spacious distance between tables. Luckily, it was a slow day for lunch so I did not feel crammed (only 4 people ate accompanied by 2 service staffs and 2 runners). The dining room design and ambiance were casual with wooden floor and tables without any cloths. Some black and white photos of the lake Tegernsee, plants hanging on the ceiling as well as some pots with flowers provided accents to the dining room. During the day time when the curtain was opened, we could see the hotel garden covered with snow - but most tables did not have that view.

Given how harsh the climate is in Iceland it has doubtless taken years for this very thin vegetation to grow. In only minutes it changes from normal, to hot, to burning, to buried under lava
Rocky was given to me in thanks for a job by one of my editors. He sits on my cubicle looking out for me and grinning so I'll always smile, too.
This rose was given to me by the owner of Select Roses in Langley BC. He had made a mistake and damaged the plant oh so slightly and he felt he could not sell it for that reason. I already had a large climber of it but one never turns down a free rose. This one does exceptionally well in the rain. Most red roses do not do well in the rain this one does great.

Hollywood has given us some untruths regarding The Colosseum, one of the most famous monuments in the world. In reality, many of the gladiators were not slaves; there were female gladiators; most of the time gladiators did not fight to the death because they were too valuable to their trainers; the emperor had the final say in whether some lived or died but many times it was left to the people; gladiators were the rock stars of their day among the lower classes and were very popular among women.
Originally known as the Flavian Amphitheater, the Colosseum was the largest building of the era. Emperor Vespasian, founder of the Flavian Dynasty, started construction of the Colosseum in 72 AD. It was completed in 80 AD, the year after Vespasian's death.
The huge amphitheater was built on the site of an artificial lake, part of Nero's huge park in the center of Rome.
The elliptical building is immense, measuring 188 meters (617 feet) by 156 metes (512 feet) and reaching a height of more than 48 meters (159 feet).
The Colosseum could accommodate some 55,000 spectators who entered the building through 80 entrances. Above the ground are four stories, the upper story contained seating for lower classes and women.
The lowest story was preserved for prominent citizens. Below the ground were rooms with mechanical devices and cages containing wild animals. The cages could be hoisted, enabling the animals to appear in the middle of the arena.
Emperors used the Colosseum to entertain the public with free games. Those games were a symbol of prestige and power and they were a way for an emperor to increase his popularity.
Given to us as a present when we leaving to come back home to the UK by our friends the Stewarts, is displayed every year to remind us to have a drink to all our family in Minnisota

This is the second time the event has been held at Ft. Knox. The competition, hosted by U.S. Army Cadet Command runs from October 24th through 27th and brought in nearly 300 teams built from around 3,900 Cadets from 220+ schools across the nation and from as far away as Guam. Elite Junior ROTC Students competed to be among the best in the nation.
JROTC is one of the largest character development and citizenship programs for youth in the world, helping them maximize their potential in pursuing their goals.
