The Polish Cemetery, where over a thousand of those who died during the Battle of Montecassino in May 1944 are buried, as seen from the Abbey of Montecassino.
The Basilica at the Abbey of Montecassino was destroyed when the monastery was bombed on 15th February 1944, during the final stage of World War II. It was re-built according to the architectural and decoration pattern of the 17th and 18th century design attributed to C. Fansago.
