It's been a while since "The Girlfriend" has made an appearance in my photostream...
"The Girlfriend." "The Boyfriend." These are the nicknames/pet names we have given each other and often times our friends will give us funny looks or comment about them because they sound so impersonal. For her and I they are terms of endearment. Several times a day I can hear her in a soft calling voice from somewhere else in the house, "Boyfriend..."
People ask us what we will do when we get married; will we call each other Husband and Wife? Not sure, right now to us those have an entirely different ring to them. We just might keep calling each other Girlfriend and Boyfriend. After all she is a girl and she will still be my best friend. :-)
When we get in engaged will I call her my fiance? Nope, she will be my girlfriend. Look at the etymology of fiance... it's from a french word fiancee that means "Girlfriend." The english version, however refers strictly to the man whom a woman is engaged to be married.
