………A look back at our last Lake District visit to whet our appetite, this was taken up Sale Fell, a lovely walk we most often do. Looking forward to our next trip North. I have to mention the giant step that Emma Raducanu took last night! WOW! What a wonderful achievement, so so pleased for her. Alan:-)…….

During a walk in the forest in late March I saw this nice group of Giant Chickweed. These tiny wildflowers have a lot of detail to them.
Photographed with a Lensbaby Velvet 85.

It's rare that I find a Giant Swallowtail the is 1) in perfect condition, and 2) has it's wings held open. Definitely worth a few shots.
This is by far the biggest butterfly I have ever seen!
For scale keep in mind that the head of that thistle is almost as big as my fist.

Meripilus sumstinei, the giant polypore consist of numerous rosette-like flattened fan-shaped cap.
It is found in North America, where it grows in large clumps on the ground around the base of oak trees and tree stumps. The mushroom is edible.
Besides the jaguar these giant river otters are the other top predator at the pantanal. Living in highly social family clans they start their day with leaving their den, grooming, morning toilet and start hunting. They're very skillful hunters and caught fish on every single dive. The fish rich rivers here are a perfect habitat for these endangered species of otters. This one just caught an armored catfish and was feeding on it on a log just in front of our boat. Could watch them for hours.

An early morning walk amongst the Yosemite Giant Sequoias is so breath taking, It can bring you to your knees. Glorious!
Giant sequoia trees need to be seen in context to be appreciated. Since nobody else was around on this winter day in 2014, I used a self-timer to run into the shot. Some specimens are larger than these along the Congress Trail in Sequoia National Park. The General Sherman nearby is the most massive living thing on earth.
Giant Hummingbird (Patagona gigas)
No prizes for guessing that this is in fact the largest species of hummingbird with a wingspan of around 21cm and weighing in at up to 24g!
Compare that to the smallest hummingbird (and bird!), the Bee Hummingbird reaches 6.1cm and weighs just 2.6g with the female actually being slightly larger than males.
Found along both the east and west slopes of the Andes in high altitude forests and scrublands (2000-4300m) from southern Colombia to central Chile.
Its larger size doesn't mean its any easier to photography though - that wingspan!

Just home from our 2 week 1700 mile round Ireland road trip...
We started up in Antrim in Game of Thrones territory - this shot was from the second day of the holiday... and yes that is a person standing at the peak of the hill... and no i didn't ask him to pose for me...
CC always welcome...
I liked the light on the underside of these giant leaves. I don't know what the plant is but think it's related to the calla lily.

Best viewed large by pressing "L". Actually best viewed large standing there, so this is second best.

The Giant's Causeway is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic eruption.
The Merdeka 118 building is designed with a mixture of diamond-shaped glass facades to signify the diversity of Malaysians. The design was made to resemble and inspired by [1st Prime Minister of Malaysia] Tunku Abdul Rahman's outstretched hand gesture while chanting "Merdeka!", when he proclaimed the independence of Malaysia on 31 August 1957. The project was funded by the Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), a state-owned enterprise of the Malaysian government, at a cost of more than RM5 billion. (Source: Wikipedia)
Note the '118 Mall' still under construction at the base of the building.

Saw this when we were in Andalucia in February, and the more I looked at it the more it really looked like a sleeping giant. It can be seen from miles around, whether driving or on the train
