The local out of Owosso bound for the Ann Arbor begins the grueling 4 hours task of switching out over 110 car outbound. This would prove to somewhat ruin the day for getting them to come back north out of Howell. They would also sit in Bermuda Triangle at Howell and wait for CSX's local D709 to get and setout cars for the GLC. Would be way after dark before this job would see Owosso again.
The plumber came yesterday. He probably wasn't expecting Ollie's friendly greeting. He wound around the guy's legs, accepted as much petting as he could get and even swatted at something that was dangling from his belt.
When work began in earnest, Ollie adjourned to the safety of the land under the bed.
Once the coast was clear, Olliie wandered back in to observe me as I tided up after the plumber, though he did such a good job I didn't have much to do. You wouldn't know that from Ollie's expression.
And one of the very nicest things about birthday is how we celebrate with wonderful friends, great food and laughter!
As we observe your birthday today,
Your cake and gifts don't matter much.
These common things aren't really you,
Ribbons, paper hats and such.
We celebrate a person who
Brings happiness to everyone,
Someone who gives more than she gets,
And fills our lives with joy and fun.
So Happy Birthday, and many more!
We hope you make it to a hundred and two,
Because we always want to have
The special pleasure of knowing you.
Happy birthday, Virgie !!
The little burrowing owlets get down low and spread their wings to catch the falling rain. It is so cute to see how excited they get and how much they appear to love the rain. Definitely going to miss these little cuties and hope to see them again next year!!!!
Wishing you a very lovely evening and a very blessed one too !!
Something new for me to try....I dont usually shoot into the sun. These were fun to get and I liked the results.

We tend to celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. Helping each other getting out of the driveways. It was a terrible night and many were stranded in stores for the night and we have 100s cars in the ditch this morning.
Oh cruel fate.
Why do you abhor me as of late?
You test me every chance you get
and you have given me lots to regret.
I'm not as weak as you think.
Look at my eye and do not blink.
The day is finally over.
You can not come any further.
I stood the test of time
And you can't beat me in my prime.
I'll face you head on,
and show you I can take you on.
My hope and faith will make me strong
as a new day comes along.
Saturday night cruising outside the city limits...
It's well past sundown at Mortie's Sinclair station out on Highway 35,* but Mortie doesn't mind working late. He's more at home here at his shop than he is at his house.
Tonight is clear and cool. Mortie's sweet '56 Jag is parked outside and he's got a wild custom Mustang in the bay that he's having a ball working on. Imagine, getting paid for what you love.
Plus there are the night riders.
The further you get away from Paprihaven proper on Highway 35, the riskier it gets, and Mortie is about as far out as he'd like. Past his station there's the Cozy Cones Motel** and then you're just running between Thistledeep*** and the Queen's Castle.****
But the open miles of sand and rock south of 35 make for excellent off-roading, so some always venture out. There are the regulars, such as tonight with Bo Warren's Jeep 4x4 and Al Corn's classic 1972 Ford Bronco 4x4.
Mortie will gas em up and tell them to be careful. They'll laugh it off, climb back in, and gun it back out onto 35, throwing gravel. Mortie will smile, happy at their fun times, but then he'll say a little prayer.
Because people headed west on 35 don't always come back...

Not certain where the adults are at, but this is the second year in a row that I’ve spotted juvenile, Black-crowned Night Herons on the bayou and I have yet to see an adult in roughly 8 years. I presume that I’m looking in the wrong places. This youngster was extremely skittish and jumped from tree to tree and limb to limb trying to escape that clown in the canoe. At least I was able to capture it before it flew off. Photo taken on Arman Bayou.
I am going to add a bit of clarification to this post. Some will call me a bit crazy, and I guess it’s just me. They may be spot on correct as well. I still enjoy the challenge of taking photos and some of the new cameras, including the Sony A7RV that I am currently using are ladened with technology and have all sorts of assists built into them. Turn on the AI and Eye Recognition and the camera never misses the bird buried in the branches no matter how cluttered it might be. I used those features initially but must confess that they are all turned off in my camera. Autofocus is on and that’s about it. I miss a lot of shots, but I also don’t feel like I am using an automatic point shoot camera to take my photos. What you see is what you get, and I usually try to focus on the eye, but that is not always the case.
I also want to say that these are just my opinions and my way of doing things…OLD SCHOOL for this old timer.

I'm sure this is what Jordy meant when he said we should celebrate this week with a "XXX" theme :-) Well, this is about as triple X as I get, and what could be more cliche that a game of tic-tac-toe played with colored pencils?!
Happy cliche Saturday and Happy 30th week to one of my favorite flickr groups!
Update: thank you for all the comments/favs - this is my 30th explore, how fitting!!
I think this perspective gives a good idea of how dense the winter-time tule fog could get (and it could get even worse than this). We're at Riverbank, California, east of Modesto on the AT&SF main through the Valley. The fog is denser at night, so you can assume that by this time in the morning it's not as bad as it was earlier in the day. You can maybe see 6-7 car lengths, max this morning. Two SD24s (900s) head a northbound freight out of Riverbank yard this morning, working the tracks as far west as Richmond, where they will tie up.
The green is so amazing!
I am super happy with the detail I got from this shot. We were up on a dangerous craggy mountain when this bird flew in. My pack with my camera was about 30 seconds away. This bird flew in and I was sure I would not have time to get my camera, but I hobbled over to get and and hobbled back and it stayed!
It's beautiful, it's bittersweet
You're like a broken home to me
I take a shot of memories and black out like an empty street
I fill my days with the way you walk and fill my nights with broken dreams
I make up lies inside my head
Like, "One day, you'll come back to me"
Now I'm not holding on, not holding on
I'm just depressed that you're gone
Not holding on, not holding on
Beautiful mistakes I make inside my head
She's naked in my bed
And now we lie awake, making beautiful mistakes
I wouldn't take 'em back
I'm in love with the past
And now we lie awake, making beautiful mistakes
Nah-nah-nah (in my head)
Nah-nah-nah (in my bed)
Nah-nah-nah (ayy)
Making beautiful mistakes
It's pitiful, I can't believe how every day gets worse for me
I take a break, I cut you off to keep myself from looking soft
I fill my nights with the way you was and still wake up with broken dreams
I make these lies inside my head
Feel like they're my reality
Now I'm not holding on, not holding on
I'm just depressed that you're gone
Not holding on, not holding on
Beautiful mistakes I make inside my head
She's naked in my bed
And now we lie awake, making beautiful mistakes
I wouldn't take 'em back
I'm in love with the past
And now we lie awake, making beautiful mistakes
Nah-nah-nah (in my head)
Nah-nah-nah (in my bed)
Nah-nah-nah (ayy-ayy)
Making beautiful mistakes
You did me wrong 'cause I let you
Usually, I like my situations beneficial
Doing something different, got me looking stupid (damn)
The only way I'm coming back to you is if you dream it, lucid (hmm)
Prove it, if you made a promise then keep it (keep it)
Why you wanna lie and then get mad? I don't believe it (boy, bye)
But really, I was doing just fine without ya
Looking fine, sipping wine, dancing on club couches (ah)
Baby, why you wanna lose me like you don't need me? (Like you don't need me)
Like I don't block you and you still try to reach me (still try to reach me)
How you figure out how to call me from the TV? (Huh?)
You running outta chances and this time I mean it (ah)
Yeah, bet you miss my love, all in your bed (bed)
Now you're stressing out, pulling your hair (hair)
Smelling your pillows and wishing I was there (I was there)
Sliding down the shower wall, looking sad (sad)
I know it's hard to let go, I'm the best (I'm the best)
Best you ever had and best you gon' get (gon' get)
And if we break up, I don't wanna be friends (be friends)
You're toxic
Beautiful mistakes I make inside my head
She's naked in my bed
And now we lie awake, making beautiful mistakes
I wouldn't take 'em back
I'm in love with the past
And now we lie awake, making beautiful mistakes
Nah-nah-nah (in my head)
Nah-nah-nah (in my bed)
Nah-nah-nah (yeah, yeah, oh-oh)
Making beautiful mistakes
Nah-nah-nah (in my head)
Nah-nah-nah (in my bed)
Nah-nah-nah (ayy, beautiful)
Making beautiful mistakes
Nah-nah-nah
Nah-nah-nah (ooh)

The story of this photo:
I took this shot at a little lake while I was on a walk. I don't really like to see the summer leaving. But I have to say that autumn does have its nice aspects. Above all, of course, those fantastic colors. On a sunny day it's wonderful!
Thanks to everybody for the continuing support and for the great comments. Have a great weekend!
Enjoy!

Some cannot live without being the center of attention. They show off and position themselves to become visible. Over time, they slowly but steadily bore their way to what is aimed without regard to losses.
Once they start to set themselves a monument, the voices that ask about relevance fall silent. Since floating with the current is convenient, it is easy to succumb to this sense of mission.
Yet the real problem is always how much attention they get and not how much they demand. If you only let your gaze wander a little, the whole perspective changes. Suddenly things come to the fore that once were hidden behind the impostors that now become very small.
Greetings Stumblers! Ahalanui, on the Puna coast of the Big Island of Hawaii is home to an incredible volcanically heated hot pool with water that is nearly body temperature. It also has some excellent coastal scenery and large breaking waves. Sunrise is the best time to see the drama at its best! No HDR.

The Story
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It seemed like it would be an easy sunrise to shoot. Merely go around the hot pool, over the top of the rock wall blocking the ocean, and around to the cliffs and lava pools. However, the rocks are extremely slippery and you don't expect that when all of the lava is just a few decades old at most and very sharp. So, you walk along experiencing a reliable grippy surface and suddenly it is as slippery as ice! So if you go here, especially in the dark before sunrise, be careful!
The problem gets worse because I wanted to get close to the little reflecting pools in the foreground, but it was difficult to even move, let alone run from these unobstructed waves which pound this spot every 20 seconds or so.
The weather was warm and about as perfect as it can get, and this can lull you into a false sense of security. I mean, how can there be danger in such a paradise? Well, with no coral reef in front of many Hawaian beaches, it seems like every 4th wave is a sleeper wave, so be careful photographing any non-reef beach. Seriously!
Anyway, even if you do not make it to the beach during the day (the hot-pool lifeguard has a bullhorn to keep people away from the waves), definitely visit this hot pool. It has an opening for the 78 degree (28c) ocean water to mix with the 94 degree (34c) hot pool water. Suddenly, the oean water feels as cold as California! The breeze off the ocean is cool enough so that you can relax in the hot water without getting too hot. It is perfect!

The Sun goes down once a day and when you are by the water it is likely you can get two Suns for just a little of extra effort. At prime time you see best of what is there to get and if you look you come across places as if made for that occasion. So, if you leave behind the cosy city lights and go wild with nature, you are already on your own hunt for your own great sunset spot to shoot your own special sunset you have already dreamed in your sleep.
Had a look down Hartlepool for the sunset last night with Ivor Miller, had to laugh at how excited We were getting at the fantastic sky We were getting, and Me carrying the branch along the beach;o))

Last few weeks of chasing was extremely fun... though its good to be close to home. It's of course where I'm most familiar with the terrain and most of all the atmosphere. This would be one of my beginning phases of Lightning photography for 2018.
Lightning is the main reason why I started storm chasing. EVERY opportunity I can get, and folks the formula has to be perfect...its not easy capture Epic lighting shots. As many as you see, I have about 30 that you don't. Shooting lightning over the past 30 years... I have my own way to capture it. A learning experience that is still in session.

It's always a bit of a gamble asking a random person to pose for you, as you never know what you're going to get and the language barrier adds an extra layer of challenge. Fortunately this village girl was a natural model, and she even offered me this coy expression as she posed between two sheets of cloth drying in the sun at a fabric dyeing village outside of Dhaka.

Taken from the Dumaluan Beach Resort where I stayed for two nights. I would be posting few more photos of the beach for my friends to appreciate its beauty. It shares same white sands and wide shorelines with the enfamous and expensive "Bohol Beach Club". In short, wether you stay in Dumaluan or Bohol Beach Club, you will be seeing the same view, swimming on the same seas and pondering on the same sands. The only difference is that: In Dimaluan Beach Resort, you spend less as you only have to pay for the cottage or huts you get and the food you eat. Another option is: Not to spend at all. Bring your own food, swim, stay in the beach and pay nothing.... lol.
My sincere thanks to Ms. Dovy Dumaluan who made my stay in Bohol a real special one.
Day five! I think this is further than I ever thought I'd get, and whilst this is taking up huge chunks of my time taking photos relaxes me like nothing else does.
I think everyone has their own place to go when they want to escape the outside world, so I figured I'd shut myself in the attic for an hour or so and just enjoy being alone. My first is exam is 3 days away now, but I still can't get anything to sink in, I have to be the worst daydreamer ever.
Anyone else know how to stay focused?
For my great mistakes I will surely pay,
I’m running low and the devil is on my trail,
When fate delivers me all I’ll ask it for,
Is a place to rest and shelter for my soul
Find Me:
Topics up for discussion at dinner:
* The mirror that came with a ghost and whether or not it is possible to tell a ghost to go away, or does it tick them off?
* My theory about reincarnation and the number of lives you get and why
* Why positive people attract negative people. Sharing negativity.
* Why you have to change who you are to change everything around you and how long it takes.
* Forgiveness.
* Why I am a terrible judge of character and is it actually a good thing? (with my friend pointing out all of the people I was wrong about.... hey! Thanks for that! But, truthfully, I really don’t care...it’s not going to change.)
* Why it takes so long to learn the things you need to know and by the time you learn them, it’s too late.
* How to totally clear your mind and what it means to clear your mind and the importance of the first thought that comes into your mind after clearing your mind and where that thought comes from and what it means ( I didn't get this!). And they didn’t believe me when I said that I have no trouble totally clearing my mind and having no thoughts at all... I can’t do it for long, but I can do it... and they told me I need to work on that and do it longer... because it’s important ... and then one of them said.... Look! She’s doing it right now! (Yes, I do have a way of totally tuning people out, too...it’s probably not a good thing....or sometimes, maybe it is a very good thing!)
* Why some people know why they are “here” and others don’t ever figure it out. And some of us.... have to do it all again.... in our next life.
And then there was something about Karma being burned up when you get to be 63 years old... and then you can have fun. Hmmm....
Strangest dinner conversation ever... and I blame Ed... and we didn’t even invite him.... he just showed up... and never left. I didn’t understand most of it... and some of it... just got tuned out! ; )
This photo reminds me how we/I should just stop worry about how old we get and embrace our young soul

I love roadtripping so much, sometimes I think I can spend my whole life doing it. Alas, it isn't possible yet, so I resort to doing it as often as I can, and in between - create pictures that remind me of what it's like to be on an empty road somewhere wonderful, driving, stopping to appreciate the nature, driving some more, trying to sing along with the music... :)
The more you travel the worse wanderlust gets, and it's tough to get rid of, but then again - why would you? :)

When you go to iconic places like Monument Valley to capture a landscape, the usual scenario is to get a tack sharp landscape. However, a dust storm had blown through the valley the night before, contributing to the haze of the sunrise. You take what you can get get and try to make the best of it. Nikon D850/Tamron 15-30
Comment on EXPLORE below, but first...Yes, another palm leaf abstract from Costa Rica, this one I tweaked the colors to be less green. Amazing how nature can be so orderly when you look closely, even though when you look casually it can seem haphazard. Going to post and run, will try and get back later, have been slightly bogged down.
I would like to make the comment that it now has been over 6 months since a post of mine has explored, since that time I have gotten all manner of comments, views and faves and no explore. I have also given all manner of comments and faves and notes, and each time because I wanted to, each one written (typed) by fingers, letter by letter, each fave a knowing click. If you are a contact of mine, it is because I like you and your work and I enjoy commenting and faving. So, I finally have come to the conclusion that my lack of exploring is obviously because I suck. (Joking, I have far to big an ego to believe that)
Seriously, if exploring isn’t about quality and it isn’t about activity then what it is it about? What does it mean? What does it represent? By the way, before anyone offers any “here is how you explore” advice understand I don’t want it, I am fairly certain that over the past six months I have had posts that followed the “exploring religion” to a tee, and still nothing. Plus I don’t want to follow a religion I just want to participate in Flickr robustly, which anyone can tell by the amount of comments I get and give I do robustly participate in it and enjoy it.
As far as I can tell Explore is a giveaway by Flickr to some users and not to others. The giveaway is that a lot of people see your images, which is one of the reasons we all post here isn’t it? Seems wrong to me. So there you have it, had to say it.
Peace out.

The world is too much with us; late and soon,
Getting and spending, we lay waste our powers;—
Little we see in Nature that is ours;
We have given our hearts away, a sordid boon!
This Sea that bares her bosom to the moon;
The winds that will be howling at all hours,
And are up-gathered now like sleeping flowers;
For this, for everything, we are out of tune;
It moves us not. Great God! I’d rather be
A Pagan suckled in a creed outworn;
So might I, standing on this pleasant lea,
Have glimpses that would make me less forlorn;
Have sight of Proteus rising from the sea;
Or hear old Triton blow his wreathèd horn.

"The Workman's Friend"
When things go wrong and will not come right,
Though you do the best you can,
When life looks black as the hour of night -
A pint of plain is your only man.
When money's tight and hard to get
And your horse has also ran,
When all you have is a heap of debt -
A pint of plain is your only man.
When health is bad and your heart feels strange,
And your face is pale and wan,
When doctors say you need a change,
A pint of plain is your only man.
When food is scarce and your larder bare
And no rashers grease your pan,
When hunger grows as your meals are rare -
A pint of plain is your only man.
In time of trouble and lousey strife,
You have still got a daring plan
You still can turn to a brighter life -
A pint of plain is your only man.

So my journey reaches 100 photos, and I guess as I see my photography go through an evolution it is only fitting I post this as recognition of that...
I am aware that I am not a very technically gifted photographer, I just try and and post images that mean something to me, be it a moment, an emotion, a place, a vision... I am eternally grateful for the visits my page gets, and I find myself humbled by the souls out there who have given me hope and light pushing forward on my journey..
She does a lot of her hunting along the river.
This works pretty good for me, as there are quite a few open areas along the banks.
I try to get my shots when the fox are in a good "clean area".
But, mostly you take what you get and try to make the best of it.
I was there on Thursday and saw three fox.
Got shots of two of them.
It had snowed some so the trails weren't that icy.
No! cleats! :-)
I hate wearing them as they are so noisy!
It was minus seven degrees below zero.
But, I had on five layers and stayed warm.

This is part of a set of variants of an image I took not long ago while walking in the local lanes with the little camera.
I published the first version a couple of days ago as Inner Secrets as a “proper” monochrome. There are two more proper versions in the set today, and the rest are manglings.
I hope you enjoy some of them, anyway. They are always fun for me to do because I’m never sure where I’ll get and ideas come to me along the way. Not that all the ideas are worth much!
This is the monochrome version mirrored in Affinity using the Distort>Mirror filter using fivefold symmetry, and subsequently split toned with blue/yellow.
For my 100x Monochrome & Toned project :)
As ever for the Sliders Sunday sets I’ll publish a link to the in-camera original in the first comment so you can see how far we came.
Thanks for taking the time out of your day to look at my images. I appreciate it, and hope you enjoy them. Happy 100x :)

I developed some very expired 110 and 126 film for someone, and helped with a 35mm point-and-shoot, getting a new battery installed and donating and loading a fresh roll of film. I offered to develop and scan the film once she was done also. These were also brought in.
This box had one 110, one 127, and three 126's cameras; unfortunately, I told her shooting these would be difficult, since film for these would be hard to get and develop, so best to use 35mm. For the most part, I think these can go to someone who wants decorative pieces or props.

I think I needed a bit more time and agitation on this roll, and to be honest, I used Foma 400 developing time, because I think this Flic Film Ultrapan 400 is re-spooled Foma.
This pretty boy isn't native to North America. No one knows if he came to Burnaby, Canada on his own, or if he was released. Either way, he's an attention getting, and has a Wood Duck girlfriend.
Montezuma Castle National Monument, Arizona, USA.
As is the case with a lot of national parks and monuments, I wasn't able to get into just the right spot for a photo. But, you work with what you can get and that's what I did here. I've never been here before and it is a very interesting place. Glad I went!

Got an F100 to shoot events more fluidly with alongside digital(and, of course, some more film). Gotta say, I've never used TTL before, and it's a world of a difference without the usual guesswork. I never cared to waste much film trying to get shots dialed for flash. With these conditions, I wouldn't likely get this one dead on in one shot manually. Knowing what the flash is doing allows me to know basically what I'm getting, and this is exactly what I envisioned. Nothing new to a lot the world, but I like simplicity, so this is a fun new thing for me.
While I'm clearly not big on flash photography, it's nice to not feel like I don't need to avoid it.

Thanks fro checking it out..take care!
On Friday night, Lucas had let me know that the NS 1019 would likely be a leader out of Topeka in the morning, as it led eastbound that night on the KP. As it was, I was free until about 9:30 on Saturday due to my high school's graduation, so I ran out to see what I could get, and I found it on the point of the MTPKC!
Unfortunately, they were having all sorts of issues getting out of the Topeka, KS yard, and while I was initially camped out to photograph it on the Kansas Ave. bridge, I eventually had to go chasing it in the yard. Regardless, I'm always happy to shoot any sort of foreign power in good light around here. From what Cade told me, it didn't pass MP 61 (seven miles east of here) until two hours later!
