The House of Hungarian Music masterfully dissolves the boundary between built environment and nature. Sunlight filters through the intricate canopy, casting shifting patterns that offer a serene refuge from the summer heat.
Bertrand Goldberg never did anything the conventional way, and River City is a good late example of that instinct. Completed in 1986, it was meant as a fragment of something much bigger, a 230-acre riverfront development that never fully materialized, leaving this serpentine residential complex as the surviving core of a far more ambitious vision. The 446 units inside sit behind a facade that refuses to go flat: bay after curved bay bulging outward and tucking back in, echoing the same sculptural logic Goldberg brought to Marina City a couple decades earlier, just pushed into a longer, more sinuous form.
Shooting straight on lets that rhythm carry the whole frame, each rounded projection catching light a little differently than its neighbor, the roofline cutting a diagonal path against a flat white sky. Streaked and weathered where Chicago winters have worked on the raw concrete for nearly forty years, the building wears its age without apology, the material itself becoming part of the visual story rather than something to be cleaned up or hidden.
It's brutalist massing with an organic, almost biological sensibility, hard material shaped into something that moves like it's breathing.
I'm apparently capable of being endlessly amused by all the changing reflections I see in glass-curtain buildings, so here's another one: a rectangular tower with all but a top section covered with reflective glass panels exhibits a dramatic, almost completely monochromatic pattern, presumably of clouds; this was indeed this monochromatic in real life, I didn't selectively desaturate that part of the photo.
The imposed completely squared-off shape of the building as seen in this photo is an impossible perspective, given where the photo was taken from.

"Riawena" is a wonderfully stylised Streamline Moderne Art Deco Villa in the Melbourne suburb of Thornbury. Its name is taken from the Australian Aboriginal word for "fun" or "sport", which is an unusual choice in the 1930s, when so many people were naming their houses after English or American places.
Standing on the corner of a busy main thoroughfare and a much quieter side street, this well proportioned stand alone villa is extremely large and sprawling, with its original garage next to it behind a high wall. The clean uncluttered lines of the house, the speed lines around the pedement of the rounded portico, feature bricks in geometric patterns and the overall low slung design of the house are very Streamline Moderne in design.
The whole property is surrounded by a low fence with plain pillars and wrought-iron swirls inserts and a gate featuring a geometric Art Deco pattern.
The tree in blossom in this photograph is a prunus; a genus of trees and shrubs, which includes the plums, cherries, peaches, apricots and almonds. This is an ornamental variety, which burst into blossom almost a month before usual owing to an unusually warm spell of weather just prior to the photograph being taken.

The roof of Antwerp Central Station, shot from hand. I was passing on a rather unproductive day when I looked up and this pattern caught my eye. I tried to get as central in the pattern as I could. The original photo was shot at 3:2, so the main change I made here was simply cropping it to a square.
I attempted to play around in Photoshop with making a symmetrical image, but I found the end results to not look right. Maybe it didn't work because I wasn't perfectly centered at location.

Jacob Burckhardt Haus in Basel, aus der Luft gesehen. Diese Serie von Drohnenaufnahmen zeigt den langgestreckten Baukörper, die Abfolge der Höfe und die Lage direkt an den Gleisen der Basler Bahninfrastruktur. Mich interessierte, wie sich das Gebäude als Teil eines grösseren Stadtraums lesen lässt: nicht nur als Fassade, sondern als Volumen, das sich über Bahntrasse und Verkehrsachsen spannt. Die Luftperspektive ergänzt meine vorherige Serie vom Boden aus und verbindet Architektur- und Infrastrukturelemente zu einer klaren, dokumentarischen Bildsprache.
Jacob Burckhardt Haus in Basel, seen from the air. This series of drone photographs shows the elongated volume of the building, the rhythm of its courtyards and its position right next to Basel’s railway infrastructure. I was interested in how the structure can be read as part of a larger urban landscape, not only as a facade but as a volume stretching across tracks and traffic axes. The aerial perspective complements my previous ground-based series and brings together architecture and infrastructure in a clear, documentary visual language.
Here is my pattern design for this week. I've been looking at different versions of this pattern for months now and I think this is how I like this pattern the best.

Beastman is an artist based in Sydney. おおきに、こんばんは。
今宵も昨晩ご紹介しましたウインターサイクルキャップのお色違いをUP致します。
同じく起毛コットンに直線と曲線を使い幾何学的パターンを染め抜いた「幾何学模様 ピンク／Geometric pattern pink」です。
ツバ裏には同柄の色違い、ブルーのジオメトリックパターンを使用しました。
丁度良い生地厚の起毛したコットンを使っているので暑すぎず寒すぎずライドできます。
耳当て部も同様にブラックコットン製のホルムアルデヒド対策加工をしている布で肌に優しく且つ柔らかく耳を包んでくれます。
冷え込んで耳が凍え痛い経験してはるサイクリストも多いと思います。
昨年も書きましたが昔使ってた冬用サイクルキャップは耳当て部が短く耳たぶも隠し切れずに露出し寒い思いをしたので耳当て部は長めに、頭頂部は深く被れるようにしています。
週末はまた冷え込む予報です。
寒さ対策しっかりしてライドをお楽しみください。

Images from three weeks discovering China, Taiwan, and Qatar. The majority of my trip was a solo food, photography, and discovery trip spent in China visiting several new places while revisiting old favorites.
All of these images are single exposure with basic edits - nothing added, nothing removed. The only use of AI is for noise reduction and dust removal.
