This is the outside wall of the public restrooms at the East L.A. Civic Center. I've seen color calibration tests for computer monitors that resemble this.

This is another abstracted view from the Getty Museum in Brentwood. I was attracted by the contrast between the soft curving lines and the hard straight lines and angles.

Better bigger.

This was not converted to black and white. It's painted in a very neutral shade of white.

This is an abstracted view of the Getty Museum in Brentwood. I have rotated the image 180°, which to me, seems to emphasize the curving lines of the architecture.

I am very much influenced by geometric abstraction and the Neoplasticism movement from the early and mid 20th century.

Another angle on the steel shutters, this time in red.

You can see more of my paintings at my blog, Exploring Geometric Abstraction.

I created this from an image looking up through the metal and glass canopy of the Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills, from a Los Angeles Flickr group meet-up back in December. It's taken me until now to figure out how to compose it.

The processing was not particularly difficult. It's been rotated, the colors shifted and inverted, and the contrast & saturation boosted.

This is another decorative metal screen, specifically, the facade of the Verdugo Towers Condominiums in Glendale.

This is a close crop of steel shutters on an animal hospital in Glendale. I've color shifted the original sea-green color for a more abstract effect.

'Night reflections': so pleased with how this printed in the proofing swatch on basic combed cotton. Primarily designed for upholstery, the original is chalk on canvas. © Su Schaefer 2013

Color check: the thread in the picture is Gutermann polyester Col. 257 (purple).

This is not a painting, illustration or computer-generated graphic. This is an actual photo of the ceiling and walls of the main staircase at the Cahill Center at Caltech, in Pasadena.

The AON Building in downtown L.A. took about two years to create a new exterior facade at street level plus an interior atrium. This is part of the abstract wall art on the south side of the building. The vaporous trail that seems to rise from the bottom of the image is a reflection of one of the spotlights in the atrium.

Another image of mine shows a tight crop of the escalators on the opposite side of the building, decked out in primary colors.

This is an underexposed shot of the light panels that illuminate the grand staircase in the Radisson SAS 1919 hotel in Reykjavik. You can see a bit of the unusually designed railing in silhouette.

You can get an oblique glimpse of these light panels in this image.

County buildings usually have a certain economy of form. The East L.A. municipal courthouse building is almost Euclidean in design. In mid-afternoon the shadows cast stark patterns against the window bays. I boosted the contrast to heighten the effect.
