I recently recieved the book by Jeff Boen called The BrickGun Book put out by No Starch Press (Thanx Jessica). How could I review the book without completing some of the models.....after all I am monsterbrick. The book reads along easily and the directions are just like Lego directions. The working parts are genious, I usually just make static mocs but watching the elements go together and mesh into working mechanisms was delightful. I got this first one together completely in about a day. My only downfall....I am going to be searching and staring at a lot of black Lego.

A stroke of genious .. 400 into 5 will go...

This little Kawasaki started out life with a 400cc. 3 cylinder two stroke engine, Then a very clever man decided to strap on a couple of extra cylinders...

This cake is like a cross between French and Italian cake. Instead of using french ladyfinger biscuits, they use Italian Savoiradi. Actually, this whole cake kind of has a tiramisu feeling to it, because the center of this cake is rum-soaked savoiradi biscuits. And to top it all, it is called the "Esterhazy" cake.

To those familiar with classical music, you should know that "Esterhazy" comes from Caroline Esterhazy, who is Franz Schubert's lover. She's German. In fact, the Piece "For Esterhazy" is one of the first piano pieces I learned as a kid.

So this is like a tri-countries cake. France, Italy, and Germany. Genious!!

One of the Louvre Museum chimeric fantastic animal ( winged horned lion with horse neck and eagle posterior legs) from the famous glazed bricks friezes found in the apadana (Darius the Great's palace) in Susa (Shush) by archeologist Marcel Dieulafoy and brought in Paris. Unfortunatly having lost most of its multiple colors, such polychromic friezes used to decorate the Achaemenian king's palaces in their capitales of Shush, Ecbatane, and Persepolis. Such figure is a protective divinity as the androcephalic winged huma faced bulls that decorated the gate of all nations. These figures were inspired by the assyrian mythology, assimilated and fashioned by the persian, showing the genious persian synthesis of the various artistic movements and traditions coming from all the empires corners.

I'm a tree peacock. My own creature. It follows people in the forest, and when it is on the risk of being seen it just drop its leafwings. Genious.

After making a full size Swoon block I got to thinking that this might be just the pattern for the Rouenneries fabric I have been hoarding...I mean saving...for just the perfect quilt. I made this using Charm Squares so it is a mini Swoon measuring in at 13" 12 1/2" square. It just about broke my brain to figure out how to reduce the cutting sizes down from the full size pattern showing me just how challenged I truly am when it comes to math =) I used the genious flying geese and half square triangle assemblies from one of Carrie Nelson's Schnibbles books to maximize the use of each charm square. I just love how it turned out!!

I never realy realized the significance and the magnificance ot this statue until I saw the original This is the original of Michelangelo's David and it stands in the Accademia Gallery in Florence. My favorite city in Italy. So much historical intellect and talent. Anyway, this is another photo I was not supposed to take, but it is my favorite from the trip. This one photo was worth the price of the trip. I was in awe of Michelangelo. Maybe I should have marked it restricted, but how do you restrrict the work of a genious. Although English kings had maintained a royal post for official correspondence since 1516, letters for the public were not admitted. There were already regulations for the carriage of Government letters, and in the previous reign of James l, Lord Stanhope was Master of the Posts and Messengers, receiving 100 marks a year and also all “avails and profits” .

In 1633 Thomas Withrings , a member of the Mercers Company, was granted a patent by Charles l as postmaster for foreign letters.

In postal affairs generally at that time there was hopeless confusion, and merchants were allowed to use messengers of their own. Thomas speeded up the mail between London and the Continent so that he was able to point out to the king that his subjects could receive a quicker and surer reply to a letter from Madrid than generally from Scotland.

He drew up a new scheme and in July 1635 Charles l authorised himto establish a pubic postal system.

Later in October that year, the first post office was established in Bishopsgate Street London where the public could take mail for posting and could also collect mail sent to them.

By January 1636 a letter from Thomas to the Mayor of Hull admonished him for not punishing "such delinquents who are continuing to use private mails"

Two post houses were also established in the Barbican and Charing Cross in 1637.

In the early days the recipient had to pay a fee calculated on both the number of sheets sent and the distance.

A letter to Edinburgh now took 3 days instead of nearly a month and Thomas made it a rule that the speed of the letter post should be 7 miles an hour in Summer and five in Winter, and he also introduced registration and postmarks;

He stated: "Every postmaster is to keep a faire paper book to enter the packets in, and shall write upon the labell fastened to every or any of the packets the time of receit thereoff"

Thomas was doing well - In April 1640 he was elected MP for Morpeth and he bought the Nelmes Manor House here in Hornchurch, living there with his wife Dorothy and young son in by 1646.

However in 1649 he was accused of assisting Lord Goring in the insurrection that had taken place in Essex in 1648 during the second phase of the Civil War, and later orders were issued to seize all of his money, goods and estates. In May he petitioned for the charge to be dropped and after a lot of wrangling in Parliament & the courts, he was discharged with no further proceedings against him.

The worry of this and the death of his young son aged 5, probably hastened his death. He died suddenly on his way to a service here in 1651

Kamiya is a genious!

As you can see Rowe's is a busy place! The front of the store has numerous bins containing items on special that people can pick through. From a salesman's point of view I can this is genious! when people have the freedom to pick through bins, they tend to buy more. It's like playing a game for shoppers. It's completely psychological, but it works. That's why Publix does it.

My slew of Tron figs I have made (minus Gem). Fine works of art if I do say so myself. To honor the DVD/Blu Ray release of the movie, so figured to have a group shot of them all.

Remember the baby-kittens we adopted coming back from our vacations? Well, here they are!! They have grown up(almost 3 months), and they get better everyday... Things were not always so easy, cause they had been ill, and they were so much frightened at the beginning! Josephine still is... They are still living secluded in a room, though, because they are going to be vaccinated just this week...And I also have another young darling boy-cat , my Moraki (="baby-faced" in Greek)...They all three have to be vaccinated and ...operated, cause I cannot afford plenty of babies around..

*** If any of you -- Feline lovers -- have any specific genious ideas about how to introduce securely, and serenely the 2 girls to my sweet Moraki (2 years old), please, write them to me!!. THANK YOU, in advance!

Many ways to write the same with Storefront Pro.

ABOUT STOREFRONT

Storefront is what the prolific and talented American sign painters of the 1920s and 1930s would have created if they had access to the advanced lettering and type technologies we have today. Rooted in an incomplete Alf Becker alphabet sample, Storefront is my usual overdose on alternates and swashes, my eternal attempt at giving typesetting that ever-elusive handmade impression.

Though the main shapes, especially the majuscules, are almost a standard recitation of the natural evolution of nineteenth century scripts, the additional variants available within the font provide a leap in time to what sign makers and packagers are doing today. I can honestly say that Storefront's influences are probably less historic and more in line with my recent travels and frequent supermarket visits. It’s difficult to avoid current visual culture when you're constantly bombarded with it. Not that I try. I certainly welcome the overflow. I'm probably addicted to it by now.

With a very cool aesthetic, plenty of alternates and swashes, extended Latin language support, Storefront is over a thousand glyphs for your branding, packaging, and sign making pleasure.

This is my Halloween costume. Made with a horrible gold fabric! I had so much fun. The pattern was knocked off a pair of jeans for the bottom and a tshirt for the top. It was very baggy and weird in the middle. I'm so not a pattern drafter!

Shakespear was baptised in the church on St Mark's Day 1564 The colours of the figure were "refreshed" in 1749 and in 1773 the Shakepeare scholar Edmond Malone, when visiting the church was so horrified that he ordered it to be whitewashed returning it to what he wrongly assumed was its original state. Years later it was again painted withut knowing quite what the original had looked like. .

In case anybody was wondering about the last shot, this is where it was taken. Frank Gehry is a genious - no doubt about it. And any builder who's able to follow his instructions is a magician in my book. I can only imagine the work and craftmanship involved. Here's a website depicting the progress of the construction.

Oh and, by the way, our BLOG was updated today. Hopefully, it'll be one of our last proton postings.

Alright so I had some free time this weekend, so I played some golf, did some homework, and I saw this! Now was it good? Was it as bad as the Aston Kutcher 'Jobs' movie? Let's find out!

Good: Oh man, this is a spectacular movie! Now as a little warning to you all, this is a HUGE dialogue movie, that's all it is so be warned if you are not into that stuff. I freaking loved this movie because the writer, Aaron Sorkin, did something spectacular with the movie, they made the dialogue as intense as an action scene, I was so enthralled in this film, I was never bored! Now another thing that was super cool was this film takes place before a reveal of a computer in three different years, 1985, 1988, and 1998. It's really cool to see a behind the scenes look of what happened before these presentations! All of the performances were incredible, my favorite character was probably Seth Rogan as Steve Wozniak, he was great and it was really nice to see Rogan do some dramatic acting. Also, Jeff Daniels has done it again, will he be nominated for best supporting actor for this AND his performance in The Martian?! That would be crazy because he was just as good or maybe even better! Michael Fassbender as Steve Jobs made him an asshole, but also likable, which is genious!

Bad: Now I only have a few nitpicks for this movie. First off, it was kinda hard to see Michael Fassbender as Steve Jobs, but then I got over it. I also wasn't really a fan of Kate Winslet's character, I think it was her accent, it wasn't very good and it kinda took me out of the film.

Overall, this is one of the best films of the year! I don't think it's as good as the Martian or a few other films I've seen this year, but I liked it a lot! So I'm going to give Steve Jobs a 8.75/10. Truly an incredible film and a must see for this year! Seriously, go see this film, because it's not making the money that it should!

Normally I wouldn't go custom (candles), but the parts I used were already broken (skeleton arms, leg-pins from hips).

For the attention of J. R. Schwartz

This unique shot was taken backstage at the Punkt Festival last year, when art rock legend (previous Roxy Music member now Master of Ambient) Brian Eno and rap/voice/comedian genious Reggie Watts participated and posed together for a brief moment.

Probably the photo taken from the front in the same moment was pretty interesting but I've never seen it.

As you might guess I'm a bit more like Eno when it comes to hair, no comparisons apart from that: tinypic.com/3ia38roo

The Stari Most or Old Bridge is the key image of Mostar in Bosnia & Herzegovina. The 30 metre humpbacked bridge was first built in 1566-67 and was of unprecedented dimensions: at it's time it was the widest man-made arch.

It was destroyed in 1993.

It was in Mostar for the first time that we witnessed the devastation caused by the conflict in the 1990s. The destroyed houses, bullet and shrapnel damage and especially the bridge still tell a story of a modern European society falling to the madness of war.

But somehow Mostar felt like a place of reconciliation, too. The Bridge on the River Neretva was rebuilt with original methods, linking again the predominantly muslim eastern and christian western parts. The work finished in 2004, and it's still an incredible testament to human genious - and now I also like to think - to the story of human brotherhood besting hate and violence.

Our dinner at a riverside restaurant was unforgettable thanks to the stunning view towards the bridge. We also succumbed to feeding a couple of stray cats from our overflowing house plate, but that's another story.
