1969-the 3 NZST houses in down town Qui Nhon had Honda 2000 stand-by generators - all were buggered, too small for the workload so I replace them with these Lister Diesels ordered from Singapore. The neighbours were not happy with thumbing away after 10pm in the evening, Although I fitted exhaust silences the consist speed was torture.
Today is the final day of the 2019 Robeson Regional Agricultural Fair. My wife and I decided to go this afternoon.
After its closure, Zwevegem Electric Power Plant became a museum for the electricity company. New management decided however to close the museum and to destroy the plant and develop the land. Luckily, it has now been saved and restoration is under progress

This is a prototype LED bike-light generator I've made from a cheap (as in "free") stepper motor. When you spin a stepper motor shaft, the motor acts as a generator that produces plenty of power to drive LEDs. I'm driving seven LEDs from just one of the four motor coils. I tested it last night and it works really well (in spite of being so quickly thrown together)!
The drive wheel is a nylon gear that I scavenged from an old VCR. It's about 1.5" in diameter, so with the 27" diameter wheel, the ratio is 18 :1. At 10 MPH, the bicycle wheel is turning at ~124 RPM. Multiplying that by 18 gives 2232 RPM for the motor/generator drive wheel.
No electronics are necessary either... just connect the LEDs to the motor leads (use the red wire in conjunction with any of the other wires, polarity doesn't even matter).
Lots of people scratching their head at the big orange generator. They didn't manage to get it working again, and a couple of bands from the main stage had to be moved indoors.
(They did manage to get a new one by the next morning.)

This tower can be seen from a distance but should not be confused with the City of Seattle's tower at 8526 Roosevelt Way NE, the latter of which can be seen from I-5.

Fairground generator sets have provided a second life for many an old lorry engine, and these can still be seen alongside the modern purpose-built types. Amongst all the usual Gardner and Cummins units this one caught my eye in Buckingham, with its radiator proudly emblazoned with the name of Douglas Tugmaster. It was causing the trailer to vibrate quite vigorously!

Electrical function generator from Wavetek. Used to send a well-known signal to the polysomnographic system in order to check if the latter correctly worked (it didn't).
That generator is made from minifig stands, and is the whole reason why I built this. It was just so damn cool I had to put it in something. :D
