A great signal generator that can be had for a very reasonable price. Thousands of these were made and many found their way to Canadian high schools as part of the electronics program. Also available in the Starkit name could be purchased in kit form and assembled by the end user. This is my everyday signal generator.

I am only guessing that this is a generator, and that it would be used to power the pump house in the event of a power failure. View On Black

We were very lucky compared to many people in the rest of the state. We only lost power for 6 days, and I ran a small generator to keep some of the things running in the house, most importantly the internet.

The New York Power Authority's Niagara generator converts the flow of water out of a reservoir into electricity.

Yep, runs the whole house in normal operations. TV, Fridge, coffee pot, computer. Doesn't seem to be a problem running the whole shabang. Needs a housing to hold the noise down and keep it safe from the weather. Should be a bit more livable than lanterns and batteries....

This is a piece of Kohler equipment on the University of Florida campus, therefore, we can presume it to be a generator 'cause it looks like one and Kohler makes 'em. :)

Real FCC press release:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

June 7, 2009

Washington, D.C. –With hurricane season upon us, it is more important than ever to make the switch to digital television and ensure your household is prepared with proper access to television weather and other emergency information.

The FCC wants to be sure consumers who have battery-powered analog televisions know they must also be sure to connect a battery-powered digital-to-analog converter box to receive emergency warnings when the power goes out. There are several options available for consumers to supply back-up power to a digital-to-analog converter box. These external power sources include rechargeable battery packs, uninterruptible power supplies, car battery adapters, and small power generators.

The Science Museum of Minnesota has a wave generator. You can adjust the frequency and amplitude of the oscillator that generates the waves. You can also tinker with the "seafloor" profile. I found that a large amplitude, low frequency oscillation, combined with a gradual decrease in "sea" depth led to the biggest and most clearly defined waves.

As of 20 Dec 2013, this is, by far, my most viewed image in Flickr. I have no idea why.

This alternating-current generator was installed at the Bunker Hill & Sullivan silver mine in Idaho in 1897, replacing a pair of Edison direct-current generators.

This includes the central air! I don't think that's too bad for balance, considering I was working from estimated figures.

Looking at these generators makes me wonder why people would rather have coal-fired power plants than wind power. They are located all around the place where I'm staying, at a typical distance of 2 km. and make little to no noise.

One of the men restoring the Mill told me that this generator was also used to charge batteries which the local farmers would bring along to the Mill.

The Mill at Gelligroes in Pontllanfraith dates back to approximately 1625. There have been several improvements made including a water powered generator which was built in 1908 to provide electricity for the Mill and the house. A major restoration was made in 1993, and the mill now incorporates a candle making factory.

The Mill is currently undergoing refurbishment work.

In 1912 Arthur (Artie) Moore an amateur radio enthusiast living at the Mill picked up the distress signal from the Titanic from this location.
