⦁ Slowly, autumn was beginning to show its presence. As he walked beneath the trees, he noticed how the once-green leaves were slowly transforming into beautiful shades of brown, orange, and light orange. One by one, they began to let go, drifting gently toward the ground.
⦁ He paused for a moment, taking in the peaceful scenery. Autumn reminded him that change could be beautiful, even when it meant letting go. Sometimes, just like the trees, he had to release what was no longer meant to stay and make room for a new season in his life.

Spending my time with Carl Zeiss Ultron. Some bokeh exploration, just a two feet from my desk. SOme color toning was done in Darktable. Not because it was needed, but because I was in a bit different mood than Nikon rendering.
I'm looking at my back catalogue today as the weather is a tad rotten. I found a shot of a lovely little sailboat on Oulton Broad named Gem.

It was Saturday morning.
⦁ I woke to the soft clatter of plastic toys coming from my younger daughter’s room while her big sister slept peacefully down the hall. The house still carried that early quiet—dim light, slow air, the kind of calm that only exists before everyone is fully awake.
⦁ I pushed myself out of bed and went to get her. She looked up at me, already smiling, already full of energy. I carried her downstairs, careful not to wake my wife. She deserved the rest. We all did.
⦁ In the kitchen, I tied on my “daddy on duty” apron and got to work. I couldn’t cook until everything was clean counters wiped, dishes stacked, surfaces shining. My daughter sat nearby with her toy cooking set, mimicking me in her own little world, stirring invisible soups and serving imaginary meals.
I talked to her as I cleaned, not expecting answers, just enjoying the sound of my own thoughts being shared.
“Time goes by fast, huh?” I said, scrubbing a stubborn spot on the counter. “Feels like just yesterday you couldn’t even walk.”
She giggled, not understanding the words but feeling the love behind them.
⦁ I paused for a moment and looked at her. The way she held her toys, the way she hummed to herself, the way she was becoming her own person right in front of me. It hit me all at once. Watching my children grow, seeing them reach milestones, becoming who they are meant to be it wasn’t just life. It was everything.
“I just want the best for you,” I said softly. She looked up again and smiled.
Then, Beep.
⦁ My phone lit up on the counter. A text message. Then an email right after. I frowned, wiping my hands on the apron before picking it up. Something about the timing felt off. Too early. Too urgent.
I turned on the TV.
⦁ At first, I thought I was misunderstanding. The words on the screen didn’t settle right in my mind. Footsteps pounded on the stairs. “Daddy, what is that?” my older daughter asked, her voice sharp with confusion as she ran into the room.
Upstairs, I could hear my wife calling out to me, her voice strained, trying to get my attention but the TV was too loud, the moment too overwhelming.
I turned it up anyway, hoping clarity would come with volume.
It didn’t.
The room felt smaller. The air heavier. This wasn’t a joke.
⦁ The news kept repeating, the same words over and over, but they didn’t feel real. They couldn’t be real.
I looked at my daughters one clutching a toy spoon, the other gripping the edge of my shirt and for a brief second, everything stood still.
It wasn’t normal Saturday morning.
⦁ Frozen in the moment before everything changed. And even now, standing there in the kitchen, I still couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

This hidden gem wouldn't be seen by the everyday walker and the only reason that I found it was due to the local farmer. If you look at the top of the bridge you will see it is covered in grass and at the same level as the bridle path so you don't actually know that you are walking over this charming little bridge ..... it would be lovely to think that I am the first to photograph it in all it's long history - so it remains my secret place for the time being.
Took this picture while traveling around Spain with my roommate. We were staying in Madrid and took a train out to the old city of Toledo which was absolutely beautiful. A city truly unlike any other
If you spend enough time wandering the dirt roads of the Palouse....the gems of those back roads sometimes reveal themselves.

This Calla Lilly valley is such a nice secret gem to watch sunset. When I went last year, I was really sad to see all the damage done by humans around the little creek. Trampled flowers, cut off to take home, it was the opposite of the leave no trace moto...
This year I went back sooner and find a lot less carnage.
