Laying laminate in the backroom has really curtailed my photographic activity lately, in fact I’ve only ventured out of the house to walk the dogs. As a little light relief I have been going back a few years to older photos and it’s funny how photos now have appeal and they didn’t back then. Now and again you come across a missing gem but usually they’re mediocre. Mind yesterdays post was a bad day at the office, so it has now been removed. The immediate appeal was soon obliterated with some poor editing decisions, it was a case of a mediocre photo getting a rush job, so I blitzed it this morning. Again todays photo is going back a bit, 2019 on a lovely trip to Glenfinnan. Maybe not a gem but a little better than mediocre, it is Scotland after all.

Photographing some of the most remote and spectacular locations is our expertise. And our workshop participants absolutely love it! This particular evening was certainly one we will all remember. It was stormy and rainy as we made our way out to one of shooting locations on our Hidden Gems Workshop this year. When the storm started to break, we stopped momentarily to photograph a brilliant rainbow behind us. As we loaded back up, a large bull elk came running full speed right in front of us, rimmed by soft light and drizzle. It was almost magical! We then had so much fun rallying through mud puddles as water sprayed all around our 4x4 vehicle. When we got to the overlook, we knew sunset was going to be epic. Wouldn't you agree?

Do you know anything about it? Hidden in a quiet corner of the Lakshore East Park this private school caught my eye a while ago. It was a pleasant discovery and it took me some time to decide how to photograph it. I’m really loving the IR Chrome look for this scene and I’m enjoying showcasing some less familiar parts of this town. What do you think?

Known as "Pugin's Gem", St Giles' Church - built by Augustus Pugin - is the architect's own tribute to inner peace and serenity and a design wonder of the Gothic Revival - being opened just over 150 years ago.
Through the generosity of John Talbot, the 16th Earl of Shrewsbury (the Lord of the Manor at Alton Towers - now one of the country's most famous theme parks and just up the road!), Augustus Welby Pugin was commissioned to design and build a church that would have no rival. To achieve this, the Earl placed unlimited means at Pugin's disposal.
The Church itself was opened and consecrated on the 31st August 1846. The very next day the First Solemn Mass was celebrated amid great pomp and splendour. Historical records tell us that eight carriages bearing the Earl and Countess of Shrewsbury and their guests left Alton Towers(when it was a stately home) for the drive to Cheadle. Among the guests were eight Deacons, 53 Priests, 13 Bishops and two Archbishops.
Unfortunately, the 16th Earl died before the Church could be endowed and his heir, the 17th Earl died only four years later. The 18th Earl was not a Roman Catholic and so the upkeep and maintenance of the Church has since fallen upon the parishioners and townspeople of Cheadle.

⦁ Growing up, I noticed that some parents seemed to put their relationship before their children. I believe there should be a balance. Now that I’m grown, I truly love my role as a father. It can be challenging, but being present for my child means everything to me.
⦁ My wife and I make time for our family, spend individual time with our child, and still make time for dates together. I believe that staying connected in your marriage while building a family is important. Get involved in your home, be present, and enjoy the little moments. Relationships can change, but your child will always be your child.
⦁ We share a connection that goes beyond words. Sometimes I’m setting up a little area in our home, and she already knows exactly what I have in mind before I even explain it. Watching us grow together while raising our child is truly a blessing.
⦁ If you have children, being a parent should always be one of your greatest priorities. But when you have a partner who understands you, supports you, and grows alongside you, family life becomes even more meaningful.
⦁ For now, I’m standing here looking at this amazing view, hoping my wife and our little one love it as much as I do. They both love fairytales, and maybe this can be one of our own little fairytale moments together.

A gem off of the beaten path and a first time sighting of this waterfall in the Mount Hood Wilderness.
Southern Arizona offers many springtime treats to those birders who visit, but few more beautiful than this one. The blue-throated mountain-gem, actually a large hummingbird (about 3X the size of the Ruby-throated hummingbird), exhibits beauty in its flight and that identifiable magnificent blue throat. Last year, when visiting the area, I had hoped to come across them, and that we did. Having a limited distribution in North America, primarily in Mexico, they also breed in SE AZ, SW NM, and southern TX. Of interest to note, the blue-throated mountain-gem does not perform an aerial display, using different vocalizations to attract mates and defend its territory. I think it's a gem indeed. ⦁ He loved the quiet hours of the day the most. Not because the house was silent, but because it felt full in a different way. Silentlee was off at school, probably making another dozen friends before lunch. That girl could walk into any room and leave with someone calling her their best friend. A true social butterfly, just like her mother always said with a laugh.
At home, though, things moved at a softer pace.
⦁ His smallest baby sat proudly in her little corner of the living room, gripping her blanket like it was part of her battle gear. The moment another toddler appeared anywhere nearby, her tiny face would tighten with determination, fists balled up like she was seconds away from stepping into a boxing ring.
He still didn’t understand where she got it from.
⦁ “Who training you when I’m not around, huh?” he whispered one afternoon as she narrowed her eyes at a cartoon baby on TV. “You trying to become a boxer already?”
Luni answered with a dramatic baby grunt before climbing into her favorite spot beside him their cozy little setup with the oversized Snuggle Froggy Backrest. The plush green frog practically swallowed her whole as she settled in, blanket tucked under her chin.
⦁ He smiled and reached for the tiny folding table, setting it carefully in front of her. A few snacks landed on top: little crackers, fruit bites, and her favorite juice cup.
“There we go,” he said softly. “VIP treatment.”
Luni wiggled happily, kicking her feet against the cushion.
⦁ The room slowly filled with low instrumental music drifting from the speaker nearby, gentle piano notes floating through the house. It was reading time now, their quiet ritual before her afternoon nap even if she fought sleep every single day like it owed her money.
⦁ He opened the book and began reading slowly, adding silly voices here and there. At first, Luni paid more attention to the music than the story itself. Her eyes wandered around the room while tiny giggles escaped her every few seconds whenever the softer notes played.
Then came the blinking. Longer blinks, a slow lean against the frog backrest. Her blanket crept higher into her little hands while her snacks sat forgotten on the table. He kept reading anyway, lowering his voice with each page.
⦁ By the time he reached the end of the story, the room had gone completely still. Then he heard it, a tiny snore. He looked down and couldn’t help laughing under his breath. “Mhm,” he whispered, carefully closing the book. “You failed sleep again, huh?”
⦁ Luni stayed curled against the Snuggle Froggy, breathing softly, her little fighter finally defeated by blankets, music, and one bedtime story.
