I started off with Cathy’s suggestion to paint some pages, so I used up some gouache on my palette from a previous session. While I was waiting for them to dry, I started experimenting with the Gelli Plate… I had been wanting to try it with soft pastels and it was quite fun but as a result of experimenting I didn’t finish the day with any finished work.

You can’t draw directly with a pencil on a gel plate, but you can transfer a pencil drawing to the plate. I drew with a 9B pencil on a piece of tracing paper, placed the drawing over the plate and rubbed the back of the paper to transfer the graphite to the plate. I then added acrylic paint with a brush. The pencil line shows up in front of the color because it was put down first.

I killed two birds with one stone. I was able to do the "tranquil" word for Inktober while painting next year's mermaid postcard. I have started making my own washi tape. I paint masking tape, put some puffy paint and glitter, doodle with pencil, pen, paint pen, or anything within reach and put the tape onto a gelli print. I love how it turns out. the real question will be how archival it ends up. You can never tell with so many different mediums. can you see the light house in the back ground? I do plan to put the word "mermaid" in the foreground for the postcard.

We all start in the kindergarten... So here is little frogprincess, still a pollywog having fun....

She appeared on my paper, when I put it aside, the eyes not glued yet. The eyes found themselves another spot to look at me.

I slowly find out about procreate, with having no gelliplate here, I am quite happy about the digital gelliplate, I can play with.

Here are three ideas. Which one do you like most?

I hope for some inspiration on this one...

I did some floral prints today on the gel plate. I gathered some plants and brought them into the house. To do a gel plate floral, you first ink up the plate with the colors you want, lay the plants on the plate, and make a print. This gives you a negative. You then take the plants off the plate and make another print to make a positive. I was surprised by how much detail showed up in the positives. Image is about 6x6 inches (15x15 cm).
