Do you remember Harriet Harman's pink women's van? A comic fixture of Labour's disastrous 2015 general election campaign. It disappeared entirely once it became a total laughing stock. But then I FOUND IT, skulking in the staff car park behind the Unite headquarters building in Holborn, two days after the election. And TBH the whole idea seems a bit quaint - almost lovable - now, after the ensuing couple of years in UK politics.

On April 3rd all candidates for the UK May 2015 General election for the constituency that includes all of Strathspey in Scotland are expected to be in Aviemore for an 'Environmental Hustings' organised by BSCG. The MP in the last Westminster parliament for this constituency was Danny Alexander who before being elected as an MP for the Liberal Democrats worked for the Cairngorms National Park under the National Park's first Chief Executive Jane Hope. So far (April 1) only Edward Mountain (prospective Conservative candidate) has provided BSCG with a personal statement with some notes on matters he views of key environmental concern. He picks on the topics of water and energy Under the heading of water he mentions the importance of the River Spey that is home to the freshwater pearl mussel Margartifera margaritifera a globally threatened species of wildlife in the River Spey. Freshwater pearl mussels, that have a species champion in the Scottish Parliament where a debate on them has been held, are viewed as a sensitive indicator of the health of rivers. The Spey is also well known for its salmon and importance for the whisky industry. . A photo of BSCG's last hustings that was held in Kingussie has been posted on BSCG's website.
