Taken 04/01/86: C&W Manager Paul Ramsden and Collectors Coach Head Honcho Malcolm Brunger brave the cold and look on as recently out-shopped SR bogie GBL No. 2339 is shunted back in position by ‘Terrier’ No. 10 ‘Sutton’. Whilst in the shed the van had been re-roofed, the glazing attended to, the body sides repaired and repainted in Southern Railway light green. Once back in position behind Tenterden’s platform the van resumed its role as a sales point to raise money for the Tenterden Rolling Stock Group, but the van has now moved on to Robertsbridge.
Matthew Cousins is in the process of applying varnish to the east side of the GBL. Not only does this brighten up the appearance of the vehicle but it helps to protect the underlying paint and timber / steel.

There wasn't enough time to progress the east side beyond a few dabs of aluminium primer. Some of the planks will be replaced. The repaint will continue in the spring when the weather improves.

Also called "gala" or "golak" we actually used to save coins when we were kids... and probably the only things we were allowed to smash up when full...

The van spent a couple of weeks in the paintshop during May which enabled Matthew to clean and repaint the roof with two coats of Zinsa Bullshot primer undercoat and two one coat topcoats. He also had time to touch up and revarnish both sides and the southern end. The west side was particularly important as this catches the worst of the weather and is the more inaccessible due to being next to the running line.
