These images come from a revisit to magpie mine near Sheldon near Ashford in the Water in Derbyshire - close to Bakewell. I was looking for unusual images and even tried a few HDR shots. Magpie Mine is a strangely remote yet beautiful place with a fascinating history and is well worth a visit.

This moss was growing on the gatepost in the sensory garden. I just love the colours and delicate textures.

Shame about the green telecommunications box, but I liked the contrast in the age of the brickwork of these gateposts. The metalwork I felt, was rather fine.

Easy find but also had to clear loads of green moss from the cut mark.

12th century gatepost from a destroyed stave church. This one depicts the forging of a sword for a hero to slay a dragon - sort of a Siegfried story.

I did like the way the lichen has completely covered the ball finial on the otherwise elegant gatepost of the Haa of Sand.
