The Japanese seem to like their places of worship to be stuffed full of repeated symbols/artefacts- lanterns, statues, and here we have these miniature Tori gates, in a shrine off from the endless paths covered with thousands of other Tori gates.
Ruins of the Water Gate in the old Southampton city wall. This was the main gate on the south side of the city and opened onto the docks. Most maritime trade in and out of the city passed through here.
I was reminded recently that this month is the 15th anniversary of The Gates installation in Central Park by Christo and Jeanne-Claude. The Gates consisted of over 7,500 saffron-colored fabric panels throughout the park.
At the time I had uploaded a number of relatively tiny photos (I was still using dial-up!) to my blog, but I was still a few months away from joining Flickr. I'm taking the anniversary as an opportunity/excuse to upload the full size photos here. Most of the photos I took were taken in the northern sections of the park around Harlem Meer.
Cloud Gate, better known as “the bean”, is the centerpiece of the AT&T Plaza in Millennium Park within the Loop community area of Chicago. The sculpture, constructed between 2004 and 2006, was designed by Anish Kapoor.
During the protests at RAF Greenham Common the camps where given colour names. Although this isnt actually an external gate it is a abstract representaion of Green Gate. It is actually a security gate entry point to the Nuclear Missile Silo's at GAMA, RAF Greenham Common.
First time I've had it, although I've had the sauce. This was the burnt ends sandwich, and it was spectacular.
Cloud Gate is a wonderful addition to the city of Chicago for photography buffs. It draws people in and is a highly interactive piece of art, which is strange since it is highly inactive at the same time.
It would be difficult to go to Millenium Park and only take one photo of this fascinating piece of art. I hope to visit Cloud Gate every time I return to Chicago, just to capture it at various moments in time.

Gate of Fortune - This a bridge was built in 1861 on the west side of the bridge known as the Gate of fortune. It is a carved gate which is a distinctive of Trondheim. It was build by Carl Adolf Dahl, the municipal engineer in charge of Trondheim's public buildings and works the last half of the 19th century.
