The top of Zion Gate. The gate and the walls surrounding it are riddled with bullet marks, left from the battle for the Jewish Quarter during the Israeli War of Independence in 1948. On either side of the gate are narrow vertical slits, used by archers to shoot arrows at approaching enemies.
Zion Gate is one of the 8 gates of Jerusalem. It is located in the south of the Old City, facing Mount Zion. It leads into the Armenian and Jewish Quarters. It is also known as David's Gate, because the tomb of King David is often said to be on Mount Zion. The gate was built in the year 1540 for the Ottoman ruler Suleiman the Magnificent.

On the streets of ancient Pingyao.
Pingyao is considered one of China's best-preserved ancient walled towns. (From my limited travels around China, I wholeheartedly concur.)
Pingyao's history goes back about 2,700 years. Located about 90 km (55 miles) south of Taiyuan in Shanxi (山西) province, modern-day Pingyao has around 450,000 residents. The ancient town, is enclosed within a stone wall, 10 meters (31 feet) high and slightly more than 6 kilometers (3.6 miles) with 6 gates: north, lower east, upper east, south, upper west, and lower west, that was built in 1370.
Within these walls live 50,000 people. Also to be found are a number of religious institutions including temples - the Confucian temple with the oldest surviving building in Pingyao (Dacheng Hall from 1163 A.D.), the Taoist City God Temple, Taoist Qingxu Guan (temple), and a Catholic church, among others.
Besides the various religious sites, there are museums to the banking industry such as the Rishengchang Museum. (The first draft bank in China was located here in Pingyao), a few art museums, and -- centrally located -- a city tower on Nan Dajie.
Pingyao also has many guesthouses (I chose Harmony Guesthouse on Nan Dajie near the south gate and highly recommend it to anyone who goes to Pingyao), restaurants (western and local Pingyao cuisine), teahouses, bars, massage parlors, and souvenir shops.
By day, the panoramic view of Pingyao is slightly reminiscent of the imperial city scenes at the beginning of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (perhaps with a creative imagination). As evening comes, the red lanterns begin to dominate the landscape. Alleys, doorways, the main roads, and courtyards all find themselves awash in a red glow.
In short, Pingyao has plenty to offer by day or night. These images are just a small reflection, through my eyes, of Pingyao's charms.

Castleford Gates signal box was a North Eastern Railway Company type S1a design that opened in the early 1870s. The original 8 lever Saxby & Farmer frame plus two external levers was replaced at some time by a 20 lever McKenzie & Holland frame plus two external levers. The signal box was extended from 16' to 27' 3" to accommodate a replacement McKenzie & Holland 1886 Patent Number 11 frame consisting of a gate wheel and 41 levers commissioned in December 1900. A replacement McKenzie & Holland Number 16 frame consisting of a gate wheel and 31 levers was commissioned in 1927. The gate wheel was removed after the level crossing gates were replaced by lifting barriers on 26th November 1967. The signal box closed on the 13th September 1997, along with Whitwood and Castleford Station signal boxes and was replaced by signalling controlled from Castleford signal box commissioned on 15th September 1997

This was taken on a walk through Hanningfield Reservoir back in 2021 when the pathway to the lakehouse / visitor centre was closed. Taken on my Fujifilm X100T.
Visted the new Gates Foundation Campus to see their Bike to Work facilities. A collection of everyday bikes were in the bike cage.

The Hadrian's Gate or Üçkapılar ("The Three Gates" in Turkish) is a triumphal arch located in Antalya, Turkey, which was built in the name of the Roman emperor Hadrian, who visited the city in the year 130. It has three arched gates. According to local legend, Sultan Belkis, the Queen of Sheba, is said to have passed under those gates and enjoyed a happy day in the palace in Aspendos on her way to visit King Solomon. Formerly the city walls enclosed the outside of the gate and it was not used for many years. This may be the reason why it has not been harmed, and it was only revealed when the walls collapsed. It is considered as Pamphylia's most beautiful gate. The upper part has three apertures in the shape of a cupola, and except for the pillars is built entirely of white marble. The ornamentation is very striking. The original gate was two storeys but little is known of the top storey.
On either side of the gate are towers, which are known not to have been built at the same time. The southern one is known as the Julia Sancta tower and is a work of the Hadrian era. It was constructed of plain stone blocks. While the base of the northern tower belongs to antiquity, the upper part is left over from the Seljuk period.
Sign on the gate house. A picture I snapped while visiting Harmony Hall Plantation. My wife had to work, so I took a couple of cameras and spent over an hour at the park. The sign reads Earl McClure was kind enough to donate one of his log motels on June 3, 1989. Twin Movers placed the Gate House in it's present location for $75.00. Repairs have been done to the building and it's in use each time Harmony Hall is open for visitors.

Notes: The ribs are served on a plate over white bread and pickles. The meat was alright, a but tough in places. They were way salty. Overall: meh.
The baked beans were SALTY. Not good.
The cole slaw was creamy and pickle tart (like relish with coleslaw). This was pretty good. It's dusted with bbq spices.
