good night!

Take-home treats after dinner at Restaurant Gary Danko, a San Francisco institution.

Gary Danko's Glazed Oysters with Osetra Caviar, zucchini pearls and lettuce cream with way too much salt!

This was the dish that broke my heart tonight! I always order this dish here and have such anticipation for it all day long! It is the reason I go to Gary Danko! The so delicate petite oysters are so succulent and the cream they swim in so sinful. It always leaves both my husband and myself wanting more more more.

Tonight the delicious essence of oyster was throughout the sauce which was so delightfully rich and full of flavor with a generous dollop of caviar on each oyster but............. it was so salty it was hard to enjoy! Oh what a sad, sad thing to happen to me!

I doubt the caviar could have been that salty. I think it must have been a kitchen accident, it was that salty! As I write this now I am kicking myself for not sending it back and requesting another try at it to satisfy this great need of mine! My husband also was so disappointed! The highlight of our meal was a bust!

Appetizer of seared Sonoma foie gras with caramelized red onions and figs.

This was very tasty, a nice piece of succulent foie gras with the contrast of a slightly sweet cooked fig and caramelized onions. Not the best foie gras combination but satisfying. .

What to wear that would work for afternoon coffee, errands, dinner at one of the best restaurants in SF and then a stand-up concert at the Fillmore? This, I think.

Restaurant Gary Danko has long been one of the best places to eat in San Francisco. The people at the next table ordered the Flambéed Pineapple Upside Down Cake with Almonds and Vanilla Ice Cream, which is prepared tableside. So we got a good view of the flames. We were glad that the server was paying close attention to his work.

Note: the "map" reports that this photo was taken at Fisherman's Wharf, but Gary Danko is in a different neighborhood -- 5 long blocks West and a block South of Fisherman's Wharf.

ahi tuna with avocado and enoki mushrooms in a sasame sauce

Coconut Thai Curry with Lemongrass, Calamari, Lobster, Scallions and Shitake Mushrooms.

This dish was good but not special! It did have 3 good size pieces of lobster but the 1 piece of calamari was not the size of my thumbnail. It had a bonus of 1 petite but delicious oyster and a nice scallop that I did enjoy!.

Roasted Pork Belly and Tenderloin with a Potato-Sorrel Purée, Peas, Bacon, Pickled Jalapenos and Maple Glaze.

This was very good and a huge portion! The tenderloin was tender and perfectly cooked. The pork belly was not decadent as pork belly tends to be but that was fine. I was actually glad it was not oozing fat. The peas were very rich on their own and very good! The pickled jalapenos were an odd addition but not off putting.

A fabulous meal at Gary Danko in San Francisco. It was really only 5 courses with an amuse bouche to start. Great food!

a few courses from our gastronomic orgy at Gary Danko, San Francisco's best

restaurant, last Friday evening.

I have never experienced service as fine, and the meal was absolutely

terrific.

We were fortunate to eat at Gary Danko's our last night in San Francisco. Man it was good.

They also have a really neat system where although it's a prix fixe course menu (you can chose 3, 4 or 5 courses), you can mix and match the courses. So if you want two appetizers instead of a fish course, that's fine. Definitely something other restaurants should do.
