Paris-Gare de Lyon (or Gare de Lyon) is one of the six large mainline railway station termini in Paris, France. The station was built for the World Exposition of 1900. On multiple levels, it is considered a classic example of the architecture of its time. Most notable is the large clock tower atop one corner of the station, similar in style to the clock tower of the United Kingdom Houses of Parliament, home to Big Ben.
Gare de Lyon, Paris, j'ai raté mon train pour Marseille... / Gare de Lyon train station in Paris, I missed my train for Marseilles...
Paris hier et aujourd’hui. Rue de Lyon. The 1910 Great Flood of Paris. The flooding River Seine started to overwhelm the city in January. By the 28th, of that month, water levels reached its maximum height at about 28 feet (9 meters) above its normal level. In March, of the same year, the Seine finally returned to normal levels. Parisians got around the city by traveling by boat or across a series of impromptu wooden walkways quickly built around the city. In the distance is the flooded train station Gare de Lyon. Today things are high and dry and bicycling around is a breeze!
