A group of boys who work as garbage pickers. They all go to the drop in centre. Quetta, Pakistan. February 23, 2012.
When you hear the truck playing the tinkly jingle in Hakodate, that truck isn't full of ice cream, it's full of rubbish.
The three black cans are made by Tucker I believe. Because when AMS Industries was around, these cans were never made in black.
A bona-fide, authentic Garbage Plate, from Nick Tahoe's in Rochester, NY. This is a Texas Hot plate with everything on it. 2 red hot dogs, covered in meaty hot sauce, topped off with mustard, and onions, on a bed of homefries and mac salad. Delicious.
Students from Arcata Elementary School created this spiral of plastic waste on the school playfield on Tuesday symbolizing the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
Y es que ya no se puede ser como antes. Ciertamente son otros tiempos donde predomina el mas fuerte.. el mas adaptado.
BRAZIL. Curitiba, Paraná. Garbage scavenger families on the slums of Parolin district. In the pictures are portraied two of the nine children taken away by Brazilian government from their family of garbage scavengers, due to the family's alleged lack of conditions for raising children in their current situation.
Garbage scavenging is a highly widespread activity between thousands of poor families in South Brazil. Family members of all ages may usually walk for hours in the search of cardboard boxes, copper parts and virtually any material worth selling for a reasonable price in one of the many recycling companies spread throughout the cities. Often taken by criminals (or, at least, people worth avoiding when walking on the streets) by most well-established citizens and having to face the continuous fall of prices of materials destined to recycling, those workers have been fighting for years against the immediate deterioration of their situation, while roaming through the daily routine between large city centers and the constant eruptions of violence on their own neighborhoods.
This garbage truck had a stuffed bear hanging off the back, too bad you can't really see it in this image...
There is no house-to-house garbage pickup in Japan. People drop off their stuff at designated points in the morning of collection. In many places you have to buy special bags indicating the city and the type of garbage contained within. Many foreign residents have experienced the wrath of nosy neighbours who reported any errors in proper garbage disposal. Unfortunately too many people think that correct disposal of garbage is all they have to do to be environmentally responsible while ignoring the need to reduce consumption in the first place. Reducing is more important than recycling in general but especially with regard to climate change.
Taken with an APS film camera, no idea which one (I'd have to go through my records to find out which one, and I cannot be bothered). Taken 14 July 2014 (it is an old photo, then).
Garbage found in/near Stony Creek in Norristown, Pennsyvania. Includes a bald tire, a smashed metal basin and an inner tube.
Made in 1983-84, in response to the Cabbage Patch Kids riots in toy stores. I was 11, going on 12, and decided to make my own spoof of those goofy dolls.
Utilizing old socks and nylons and poly-fiber stuffing, I stitched up "Garbage Patch Punks", punk rock dolls with embroidery floss mohawks, watercolor makeup, nail enamel irises, pipe-cleaner jewelry, alteration tape wrap-a-round shades. I actually took special orders, packaging them in windowed boxes made from old shoe boxes. I sold quite a few, all of the deals brokered through my mom (people she worked with, family friends, etc.) .I actually displayed my Garbage Patch Punks at the Burbank School Hobby Fair at Brickyard Mall in springtime 1984!
Here are three Punks I still have in my possession, looking as bad ass and gnarly as ever.
I made a special trip back to this spot to get this shot and by that time, it had really begun to snow. If you look closely, you can see the garbage truck in the distance. The recycling bins are still out but many of the garbage bins have been retrieved after the passing of the truck.
I've been away from Flickr for a bit with the births of three beautiful granddaughters within the space of two weeks; twins to my oldest daughter and then one to my oldest son. What a blessing!
Better larger and on black. Please click 'L'.
The City of Toronto has distributed special plastic bins for all types of garbage collection - green for organics, black for garbage, and blue for recycling. They're actually relatively handy, provided the racoons stay out of the organics bin, though many of the row and town houses complain that the combination of the three take up an inordinate amount of space.
