Garbage attracts a lot of vermin, but saying that the vermin isn’t always as bad as the actual source of the garbage they’re attracted to. There’s a great abundance of rats, flies and cockroaches out there, they thrive off waste, without it they’d probably become extinct species. I personally prefer seeing feral cats and ibis scavenging through rubbish, at least they keep to themselves... rats, flies and cockroaches always seem to come to you. Nothing like moving a wheelie bin to reveal a fresh batch of maggots or baby cockroaches that start squirming/scurrying around everywhere, or opening that bin lid to have swarm of flies erupt. Rats are something else but, launching out of the bin at you without warning or not knowing where they’ll take off once you confront a pack of them ripping through rotting food. This filthy little bastard couldn’t make it outta the bin before I dumped it, but lucky for him he was a survivor. Rats aren't dumb either, they know how to make a great escape.

As soon as I'm gonna be done with collecting all the garbage from the backyard I'm gonna have to rent a truck and drive all of this to the dump.

Collecting garbage, Roxas Boulevard, Manila Bay, Manila, Philippines.

Various commercial recycling carts. From left to right: A pair of original 96-gallon Toter/Rubbermaid carts, 96-gallon fully automated Dura-Kan, and a semi-auto Go-Kart approx. 110 gallons.

All of the blue carts are from a local Walla Walla county hauler called "DSI" that got by Basin Disposal in 2007. The black cart is a former City of Walla Walla cart.

The khaki bin is obviously an old Rubbermaid. But the green can is an AMS. Could also be a Gorilla or Zarn.

This young man empties my garbage, runs back to the driver's seat of the truck, drives one garage length, gets out of the truck, runs back to the end of the truck, empties cans on both sides of the alley ... over and over and over. While I'm in my kitchen making coffee and eating sweet rolls.

Doing something - Our Daily Challenge

Walking down 5th Avenue in NYC during an 11 inch snow fall, what to my wondering eyes should appear, but four Sanitation trucks with one-way blades mounted on the front, plowing the avenue in formation driving. Pretty cool. Wish I'd had my good camera along but did the best I could as they and the snow flew by.

Idea for a new photo series: garbage cans in the backs of fancy restaurants. This one is on North Lincoln in Chicago

Pokemon circa 1989.

Spent a weekend with my parents and found a small time capsule in the loft in the form of a shoe box filled with, well, stuff. Among which was a stack of Garbage Pail Kids stickers. These are just a few of them.

Photographed during a much deserved lunch break, at the Mc Donald's restaurant on North Harlem Avenue near West Addison Street.
