And I choose ... photography!

Birling Gap is a coastal hamlet situated on the Seven Sisters Cliffs; not far from Beachy Head. The area is popular with walkers and sun bathers and there is a metal framed staircase leading down to the pebble beach and Seven Sisters Cliffs. The hamlet suffers from coastal erosion and many of the fishing cottages are derelict and mostly uninhabited, but there is still a hotel and cafe/tea rooms. See where this picture was taken. This is a watercolour painting I have made and it shows the places I have been to in 2016/2017.

Day 1 of a two-day trip to Jackson County, Alabama.

On our way to one of Alabama's most impressive wildflower sites, we stopped at Little River Canyon for some scenery and at Sand Mountain, Guntersville Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Reservation to check out an unusual Trillium species. From there, we proceeded to Stephens Gap Cave, Stephens Gap Callahan Cave Preserve for more wildflowers and a breath-taking waterfall.

This gelding called Jake, a beautiful horse I photographed through a gap in the hedge at Ryders Farm, Kearsley in June two years ago. The image is just one of many in the horse portrait album on my website at

www.johncoxon.com/gallery/DOMESTIC-ANIMALS-:Horse

Out of the blue, I got an e mail enquiry, via my website enquiry box, a few days ago from a young girl who once owned the horse.

She had found the image quite by chance in a Google search when she recognised it as her horse.

Actually, I learned that, recently Jake had a freak accident on a hill where he suffered a serious back injury and had to be put down.

The girl wanted a print of the shot as a happy memory and I delivered an A4 print of it to her home yesterday and she was delighted.

Birling gap , Sussex England

One by one over the last hundred years this row of houses has disappeared into the sea. Now only a third of its original length. With plenty of land to spare, see 1920s view below showing the houses from the rear.
