Two famous X-Men characters; the southern hero Gambit and the devious Mr. Sinister. Gambit is semi-purist, using all official pieces with the exception of a custom trench coat by Christo. Mr. Sinister is completely purist.

CEC designed the YT-2200 with maximum hauling capacity in mind. Unlike the last few models in the YT series, the 2200 was utilitarian and built with one purpose. The entire front half of the interior was dedicated to cargo storage, and the mandibles for freight pushing used on classes such as the YT-1300 were brought back into use.

The YT-2200 was also given several new improvements over past models, such as a larger thruster bank that gave more power for the same fuel efficiency, and a cockpit design that would later be used on the YT-2400. It also featured a front docking ring between the mandibles for connecting to freight containers.

All of this came at the cost of spartan accomodations and a sturdy design that was harder to modify and adapt. In spite of that, the ship was popular with corporations because of its high cargo capacity.

In 34 BBY, one YT-2200 fell into the hands of a freelance Corellian starpilot, Jax Farlay, who got the almost-new ship for a great deal. He met and fell in love with Rooke Dannelow during an early job in the Outer Rim, and Jax named his vessel the Rooke's Gambit in her honor.

Rooke later joined him as a crewmember. They married and had a daughter, Reina. Life went well for the next several years, and Jax made a decent life for himself and his family as a pilot.

Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse later. Rooke Farlay died during a pirate ambush that the Gambit barely made it out of. Later, after the Empire rose to power, new trade regulations made Jax's career too unprofitable. Jax Farlay was forced to retire from his shipping career.

Reina Farlay, now in her teens, inherited the Rooke's Gambit. Against her father's advice, the free-spirited young woman immediately took to smuggling, seeing it as a way to fight back against the Empire that destroyed her father's career.

Reina became a good pilot and an excellent mechanic, having already spent almost her entire life on the vessel, and learning its ins and outs over the next twenty years. Almost every repair and modification was done by her hand, a rare thing for a freighter and one which eventually gave the Rooke's Gambit its reputation as a top notch ship.

Reina later took on several crewmembers, including a sharp-flying Duros as a copilot, a trigger-happy Trandoshan and Socorran as gunners, and a R3 astromech that handled everything from astrogation to repairs to even flying.

It wasn't long before Captain Farlay and the Gambit had gained a reputation for their skill in evading Imperial patrols and pirates alike.

FOURTH WALL:

I built this for the Freighter Wars contest on LEGO Rebrick. (Here's a link: www.lego.com/en-us/rebrick/view-entry?c_id={D9DDC962-F589-417F-AE7A-3F6807969D67}&a_id=d8df85f8-3e8a-44f2-b05c-d98f324ed846&sortEntry=false )

The deadline made this an interesting project, since it pushed me to always keep moving and making progress. While it's very unpolished, it did help me get it done in record time. I've definitely never gotten something built this efficiently, especially not of decent quality, so this has been a good lesson.

It's still in need of serious work. It's all attached, but has literally no structural integrity. If it was built with physical bricks, it'd instantly crumble into thousands of tiny chunks.

And aside from that, the underside is bland and detailless, and although I had planned to build an interior, that never got into the final model either.

So there's lots to be done, and although I plan on doing it, my current computer can barely handle this 8,200-piece monstrosity already, and adding a few thousand more is impossible right now.

Still, I'm incredibly happy with the end result. I've always loved Star Wars' "smuggler freighter" trope and wanted to build one, and between the Rebrick contest and SHIPtember I had a good excuse to finally do it.

The ship took inspiration from quite a few existing vessels. I've always loved the XS freighter from SWTOR, and it became my main inspiration for the basic profile. I found some well-timed concept art showing the YT-1300 pushing freight containers (which I notice several other people also did, like O0ger's beautiful Nadir). Add in the YT-2400's cockpit design, the 2000's engines, the 1210's antenna, and a paintscheme inspired by the Ebon Hawk, and the Gambit was born.

Lastly, my friends deserve a ton of thanks for their advice and critiquing. Two in particular helped with the lore and rendering very last minute images when I was getting really desperate.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy! It's been really exciting building my ship and seeing all these superb freighters pop up.
