Today was a somewhat special day: I left the house at 00:30 to reach my destination by 03:00. My mission - capture the milky way in a single shot. While it is early in the year and the stray light was something a bit unexpected, I made the best out of it and used it as backlight for the scorpion. The morale of the story - walking the extra mile sometimes really pays off.
My first attempt to use a star tracker. It was quite difficult and uncomfortable to set up, I could find the Octans stars in the scope OK, but it was fiddly to adjust and I was in an uncomfortable position trying to do it. I noticed when I clamped the wedge the alignment would move, the result was I could only get 30 second exposures with a 50mm lens. I will have to practice more! A stack of 4 images aligned and blended in Photoshop after processing without noise reduction in Lightroom.

First look at the frozen bubbles on Abraham Lake. Had seen many photos of them before and was great to finally see them first hand.
I'm officially back into Star Wars. I'm blowing the dust off of my droids and reassembling the Republic. I also got this new fig from CAC :)

Well I’m not much for Astro photography but when a dark moon aligns with perfectly clear skies, you make the drive. This was 3 hours from Vancouver at Cascade lookout in Manning Park. Have a great week. Kris…

An early Starship utilizes its ray shield in defense of an incoming force of radiation...or more likely it's a...nah, I'll stick with the Starship thing. Have a great Sunday friends. Pentax...out there somewhere.
Some nights are more than just darkness. They are invitations to look beyond the noise, beyond the city, beyond ourselves. On this quiet night, I stood still under the stars, and for a moment, I believed in infinity.

The lines and colors upon the blank canvas evolved into an approximate image from my mind. Or was it the other way around?

Minerals dried into a depression in a piece of sandstone. Kinda looks like looking through a window in an asteroid at the galactic core.
This is the famous glacial erratic near Bumpass Hell in Lassen Volcanic NP.
In late August MW is positioned perfectly behind this interesting boulder and I therefore could not resit to capture it during my roadtrip following the August solar eclipse.
While Lassens skies are mostly very dark, the southwesterly direction is plagued be severe light pollution from the Sacramento area, producing the yellow glow on the horizon that completely eats up the stars.

Finally, here it is. My version of the Galaxy Explorer 928!
Thanks to everyone who kept asking me if it was finished; I was trying to get it on Lego Ideas but it was not accepted as it was classed as bringing back an old Lego theme (even though there are several other Ideas which are obviously a version of old Lego Space sets and in classic space colours).
I will just have to think up something else more original!
The A4086 leading from Capel Curig in Snowdonia National Park, Wales.
I've been after a shot like this for a while, with a few failed attempts. I also had to be patient on this overnighter because there was thick cloud from early on, which lingered for a couple of hours before it started to clear. This left me with a 90 minute clear window for shooting the Milky Way & it lined up nicely for this shot.
This image was taken at Lake Yellowstone. I discoverd the sandbar in the afternoon and thought it might line up nicely with Milky Way.
Unfortunately I had only about 30 minutes between astronomical dusk and moonrise. Therefore, I did not have time to experiment.
On the other hand I was quite glad when I could pack my stuff and leave at moonrise. During my visit in the afternoon I saw a lot of wildlife in the area and it was eerie to be alone out there in the middle of the night...
