Illuminations - Reflections of Earth
27 sec.
f/8, ISO 200, 24mm
1.8x ND filter
Wishes is a great nighttime event at the Magic Kingdom (with the best fireworks), but Illuminations is still my favorite all around show at WDW. This shot was taken from the front of the house (best view, IMO) and close to the end of the show, just before they illuminate all the countries around World Showcase. I love the color reflections on the water.
Thanks for looking!
I love the clouds of Florida, and this image is a perfect reason why. They can make for very dramatic scenes behind some of WDW's most epic subjects. This shot was made possible due to the kindness of wdwben who let me borrow his wide angle to capture the entire sky, so thanks Ben! Have a great day everyone!
When shooting a photo that I’ve done before I always try to find a way to do it a bit differently or include a new element to give it a new spin. Otherwise, what’s the point in shooting the same shot again? Here I shot at an angle to include the moon which is an element I had not included with both the fountain and Spaceship Earth before.

Beautiful sunlight at sunset was falling quickly amongst ominous storm clouds moving in over Future World, I grabbed my son and we took off to Future World to capture the light while The Daughter and The Mr held a spot in Norway awaiting Illuminations.

This is a shot I have done many many times now, especially at sunset. Each one seems to have a unique feel however thanks to the dynamic sunsets I've captured here over the years. While this shot is not the best sunset I've captured here I still really like it as its got a gorgeous glow to it.
This was shot with the Nikon D810 and Nikon 14-24 2.8 at 24mm. I shot a bracket of 5 and used 2 exposures for my base blend and an additional shot for the monorail. I did a substantial amount of levels adjustments to this shot as I was trying to balance the sky and the foreground as well as possible while adding a bit of moodiness to the image. I used Nik Color Efex Pro Contrast to add a bit of pop. I did some mild color balancing and used a warming color filter to warm the image up overall. I used an Orton Effect on the foreground to add a bit of softness and finally bumped the saturation with a saturation adjustment layer along with sharpening.

When it started raining the main shot I was really thinking of and hoping for was a full reflection shot of Spaceship Earth. Therefore I was very happy when I found several puddles in front of Spaceship Earth that would let me get the shot I wanted. The previous shot I posted with the nearly full Spaceship Earth reflection and monorail was technically more difficult but there's something about the simplicity of this reflection shot that draws me to it more. I ultimately really like both shots but if I had to choose one to put in a portfolio I think this is the one I'd choose.
This was shot with the Nikon D810 and Nikon 14-24 2.8. It was a 5 shot bracket blended in Photomatix. I did do something slightly different for the setup of this shot however. I initially tried a frame with the camera laying in the water and the lens resting on the ground. This pointed the camera more towards the ground and while the shot wasn't bad I thought it could be a bit better. I ended up taking a small canister of lip Vaseline I carry with me and resting the lens on the front of this. This lifted the lens about 1/2 an inch and though this might not seem like much it got rid of the down shooting look that I was getting without it. Another slightly unique twist on this shot came with the editing. Often when I color balance I will color balance the sky and foreground separately. In this case I did a slight twist on that by color balancing the sky but then only color balancing part of the foreground. I excluded all of Spaceship Earth, trees, and Leave a Legacy including their reflections color balancing just the ground surrounding them to match the sky color balance.

It's very rare that you find a quiet moment in a Disney park, but that's exactly what happened here. As we were walking through EPCOT near sunset, I realized there was nobody around us! For 3-5 minutes not a single person walked by this area. After enjoying the silence for a moment, I grabbed this shot which I felt captures the feeling of EPCOT nicely.

I went to my favorite place a few weeks ago: Ocean Beach in San Diego.
My dear friend Tyler joined me on this beautiful trip.
Anxious at first, I finally settled in my idealized mindset. It's easy to create in such beautiful settings.
Everything at ease-
The ocean breeze,
Sandy lips,
and waves of water that feel of a future world.
A mindset I would like to keep.
Storms truly do lead to some of the most magnificent sunsets in Florida. This is no exception, as thunder rumbled behind me and lightning followed me as I ran to the safety of my car.
I took a similar shot about 2 minutes after this one but framing Spaceship Earth on the left. In fact, both have the same monorail. I’m not sure which I prefer, but now they’re both out in the wild for you to decide. I’m simply thankful the Leave a Legacy monoliths reflect so well, appeasing me when there isn’t a puddle in sight.

Why is it that when you want to shoot a picture of a monorail there is not one to be found? Patience is not a virtue that I am know well for amongst my peers but one of the tranquil aspects of photography that I love is that if you wait long enough more often then not the picture will come to you. Odd isn't it? Such is the case on the photo above.
I always love how Spaceship looks against the deep blue Florida sky!

I recently refreshed all the Topaz photo applications and found I was eligible for a pre-release version of Photo AI. This app analyzes a photo and figures out which of their other apps to use on it and how much. Photo AI took this photo and applied DeNoise AI and Sharpen AI processing. While it did a great job, I decided to add a bit more of DeNoise. After it added the photo back into Lightroom Classic, I tweaked it a bit more for this final image. Overall, very impressed with Photo AI.
