Booz Allen served as a platinum-level sponsor and provided volunteers for this year’s Alabama Regional Future City Competition, in which students envisioned and designed an ideal city 150 years in the future, built a model of the city and presented their ideas to judges.
The largest cucumber growing in my Earth Box. The plant is overgrowing the box and attaching itself to the nearest bell pepper plant. I'm not very happy with the picture. I had to use the flash for this one because the leaves were blocking the sun. Touching the stems reminds me of touching fiberglass and having it embedded in your skin.
The sprouting bud of a grapevine. Every part of the future branch is already formed in it and has just to grow and develope into leaves and flowers. This bud formed during last Summer. Only this kind of buds will generate shoots carrying flowers and thus grapes, so during the pruning the viticulturist must keep in mind that the number and position of buds will affect next year production. You can see the cut of the old branch close to the present day shoot.
