One of CN's well-worn Grand Trunk Western GP38-2s was rolling along the IHB at Park Interlocking to pick up some CN-bound freight at Norpaul Yard as a L501. She may be a bit haggard, but the Funk still rocks on.
Lately, I've been feeling like I'm in a funk, photography-wise. While replying to a Canon Forum post about "Style", it occured to me that my shooting methods sort of changed while in this mood. Here's the excerpt....
"Like some have mentioned, your style just comes about over time. Initially, you'll just shoot and shoot, will your sole intention of just getting a decent shot. After feeling pretty confident, you'll start to experiment more, and just find an approach that really works for you (subject, compo, processing, etc...).
You don't have to have a "style", nor do I think you should stress about trying to develop a particular one. Just let it come to you.
In fact, it might be someone else that notices it before you do. One thing I'm kinda known for in the Disney community is using crazy angles to many of my shots. That pretty much developed from not keeping a shot straight to save my life (and not being familiar with simple straightening tools). So i purposely tilted a lot of my scenes to do something different and creative (for me anyway). And I actually liked doing that, and it really came natural to me. But funny enough, someone pointed out that I have an 'in your face' style of shooting; and really putting the subject 'right there!!!'. But those are just the ways I shoot. I find when I try to force those approaches on certain subjects, they don't always work out though. So just shoot and shoot, and you'll eventually find your comfort zone; i.e. "style".
And to tell the truth, I've been feeling like I'm in a funk lately; photography wise. I just don't seem happy with many of my shots, and I'm already pretty picky with what I post on Flickr. But I've noticed that a lot of the shots i do take aren't really my "style". Mainly because they mostly seem be completely leveled shots. So i guess that my uncomfortableness isn't resulting in my usual comfortable funny angles."
The above shot of my daughter is one of the few shots that I've taken lately that I instantly liked. Sure, the subject is great ;) , but I really like the slight angle with the tight compo. I should also mention that it was "from the hip". But I can guarantee that if I held the camera up to my eye, I would've tried to keep this straight. But hopefully by keeping this shot in my mind, I'll be able to bust out of this funk.

Funk's La Ruta bike isn't a new model, but is a minimalist approach to full suspension. This titanium 29er has a pivotless design, with about 80mm of travel.

Information about the use of radio on the Zeppelins.
I took this so I could translate it from German, which I've finally added below.
In case you hadn't guessed, "Funk" is German for "radio."
-- Mostly coherent, with (lots of) help from Google Translate --
The importance of wireless telegraphy for the transmission of weather and navigation messages was realised very early on.
This was one of radiocommunications transmitter, receiver and antenna and a power supply is needed.
Due to the danger of explosion, the equipment had to be built into compact sound- and gas-proof cabinets.
In 1908, a unit of the Society for Wireless Telegraphy (Telefunken) facilitated the first radio experiments on a blimp.
In 1919, radio transmitters were used to overcome distances up to 6000 kilometers.
The experience in airship technology led to the development of the first radios in reconnaissance aircraft.
At the end of the First World War, the circular tube (?) multiple transmitters and receivers were introduced.
Thus the succeeded wireless telephony and the use of rotating antenna for the radio navigation.
That built the later developed automatic target travel and fog landing procedures at radio.
Civilian, intercontinental transport airships achieved radio ranges of over 10000 kilometers.
This was made possible with help from the short-wave radio transmitter used in 1928.
This was from the joint brief with the graphic designers and photographers, where we have to make a short magazine on a genre of music.
We got Funk. So we decided to do a spread on funk inspired fashion today, the flared sleeves and crazy pattern on the top. This was my first fashion shoot, I feel like a baby!
So, Sammie kindly agreed to model, and Jack helped me out with a lot of the lighting.
Kudos to both! You are both awesome.
