The Frank Funk House in Franklin Square (date unknown). Funk was the son of one-term U.S. Representative Benjamin Franklin Funk. Born and raised in Bloomington, Frank Funk attended the Illinois Normal School, Lawrenceville School, and Yale University. He was elected to the Illinois State Senate in 1909 and served until 1911. He ran unsuccessfully with the Progressive Party for Governor of Illinois in 1912. He ran unsuccessfully for U.S. Senate in 1913 on the Progressive ticket. He was appointed as Illinois Public Utilities Commissioner in 1914 and served in this role until 1921, when he was elected as a U.S. Representative. He served three terms; after a failed re-election bid in 1926, he retired. Funk's wife Florence died in 1923. He re-married to Mary Bedell, who became one of the first women to run for a major political office in Illinois. She ran for state representative in 1936, state senator in 1940, and U.S. Congresswoman in 1942.
