I had a wonderful Easter weekend with family! Yesterday's celebration was the last day of observing Passover and of course Easter. Great food, cocktail drinks and company were the best part of the celebration as always! :)

I asked my family (good thing I have five kids--they don't get tired of me shooting them) if I could do a family session with them. The beach is not the place to do your first one as the there is light bouncing all over the place. It is was so fun and I learned so much. I posted the rest of the shoot on my blog, www.joannethomas.wordpress.com and wrote about my successes and failures and what I did in processing. Have a look if your are interested.

Boring photo. Didn't have any motivation yesterday.
I have two copies of book 6. Reason? Bol had a discount on books, including the 1-5 boxset which I ordered (64% off, so that would have been five for 25 euros). I got the 1-6 boxset instead for the same price :P I'm not complaining.

Before Julie and Mike came over I had asked if she could find me any puzzles at their local charity shop. She stopped me in mid sentence and said she had loads she could give me.
Sadly however, they were not only coming over in her car, not Mike's (a bigger one), but also Mike's sister and a friend of Julie's were coming with them, so space was going to be limited. She managed to squeeze in 4 which was great.
The top one is the oldest and doesn't have a small photo of the picture on the side of the box. It may also prove to be the hardest, the pieces are paper thin!
The one at the bottom was bought some time ago, but has never been opened and looks a lovely one to do. All of them are 1,000 pieces, so they should keep me busy for awhile!
The one I'm working on at the moment with the sunset is taking me ages, the middle bit is 50 shades of black!

A very wise man once told me that, "The hardest thing to stop is something that's trying to happen." From my experience these are some of the truest words ever spoken... and it's doubley true when it comes to being creative.
Yesterday I was a ball of fire. I was inspired and energetic. I created a list of the twenty or so techniques I plan to used during January for my 365. I created a calendar and entered them all in and started planning the weekly themes I would use throughout the coming year. I was on and I was riding the wave.
Fast forward to my planned theme for the day. "Strobist-Still Life" was on the agenda. Easy. I had a concept I had been thinking about for some time and this was a perfect reason to execute it. But the photo gods weren't smiling on me, I just couldn't get it right so I changed directions toward a previous shot that I wanted to redo. That also let me down. My heart just wasn't in it and frustration was taking hold.
By this time it was 9:00 p.m., I decided that I needed some air. I grabbed my photo kit and headed out the door. All of a sudden I was in my element. I love shooting long exposures. My whole outlook changed. I found something to shoot within 30 seconds of leaving my home and then I moved on and on and on. 2 hours, five locations and 50 frames later I returned home and I was ecstatic at some of the great shots I got.
So here it is, midnight, but don't worry I got my shot. It's not a strobist shot but it's a fun shot. =)
This is something I've been wanting to do for awhile. It's a long exposure of about 4 seconds at f ƒ/8 | ISO 200 with the camera sitting right on the stair tread of an escalator. This convenient, empty escalator was at the train station. Funny how I always end up there.

Sneak peak of Ruby, to be donated as a raffle for Blythecon! You might go home with your very own new happibug! Ruby sports an anchor tattoo in honor of her roller derby team, "The Portland Sailors". When she's not working out with her team, Ruby studies medicine at Oregon Health and Science University. Ruby is a custom Simply Chocolate (fbl mold) with a layered bob, and she will have a custom made outfit, mirrored anchor pull ring, and of course one of my felt hats to complement her theme!

A few posts back I told you the story of an Unreal fishing lake in Manitoba, where the rainbow trout are Huge and the Browns even Huge-r.
Massive strength and sooo much fun to catch. Hubby caught his on the dry and watched the take...such an incredible feeling.
This one was my 2nd big brown, and luckily hubby could paddle over to grab the cam.
Hubby's fish (previous post) wanted to snuggle where mine wanted a big wet kiss....maybe next trip!
