In the new central plaza of town (first main plaza is in front of the sugar mill's ruins) in the 70's a lot of structures were erected and they bare a typical architectural façade of its time;
- Main piece is the Nela movie theater. It's a pre fab structure. 2 Main designs were done, one for bigger cities (Like Santa Clara and Cienfuegos) with more details and flair, and this functional-nly structures destined to smaller towns. So far I've this is the third identical one I've encounter.
On the side, those 2 storey buildings are known as "bi-plantas" and are made of prefabricated concrete and rough bars of corner pillars, walls of prefab slabs that slide from the tp between the columns and prefab ceiling/floor slabs (also used in the bridges of the times). The technology was known as "machi-hembrado" (as in female/male system)

Novel chitin biomaterial , 3D printed ABS & SLA
This project was done in collaboration with Shuyuan Zheng (MID’21 ), Kate Ross (MID’22) and Dr. Katia Zolotovsky as part of the RISD - Hyundai Summer Research Collaborative. It aims to create novel water repelling and water directing surfaces inspired by the microstructures of insect wings that are made entirely of chitin biomaterials imagining use cases of lightweight housing in flood prone areas.
