The SFI-AISF have declared that the JNUSU President elected from AISA was non-functional and has lost the moral right to lead the Union.We ask them how functional were the other Office Bearers from their own organisations? .
Didnt the JNUSU VP break all records of audacity and irresponsibility by quietly vanishing to take up a job in Silchar (Assam) last semester? Didnt the SFI do its best to hush up this fact, claiming she was sick? When AISA exposed the truth, wasnt the SFI itself forced to admit that Ms. Ena Panda had been irresponsible and taken up a job? And wasnt she forced to return because according to the residential clause in the JNU rules, she could not have held a job outside Delhi during the first two years of her PhD? Since then, how active has the VP been? Her name has appeared on leaflets, but even during the hunger strike at the Ad Block, she could be seen taking classes in SLL&CS but never bothered to visit the hunger strikers even once. In fact, she was absent even during the last Council Meeting, where the JNUSU Presidents role was condemned! How come SFI-AISF never questioned the right of the JNUSU VP to continue in Office? .
As for the General Secretary, the less said the better. He is better known for his love for badminton rather than for his commitment to students struggles! He has surpassed himself by playing a leisurely game of badminton while the JNUSU holds mess campaigns on some serious issue! The present GS, elected from SFI-AISF has rendered even the post of General Secretary insignificant and invisible. In stark contrast, the campus recalls that it was the post of General Secretary which was the centre of attention last year, when the AISA representative Comrade Mona Das who held the post. Last year, the General Secretary elected from AISA was the centre of SFI-AISFs slander; this year, things have not changed even when she is now President. .
As for the issue of resisting the Administration, the SFI-led Union of 2003 has the unparalleled record of forcing students to sign apology letters for protesting against rotten food in the privatised mess of Mahi Mandavi. As for fighting communalism and the ABVP, the campus has not forgotten the historic legal compromise deed signed by SFI leaders with the ABVP in 2002, regarding the violence perpetrated by ABVP during Ashok Singhals visit to the campus. The SFI-AISFs JNUSU leadership was not only inactive and irresponsible, it also went to great lengths to be sectarian. For fear that achievements on the Charter of Demands would go to the credit of the JNUSU President from AISA, the SFI-AISF used its majority within the Council to veto the proposal for a struggle on the Charter, claiming that 15 September was 'too late for an agitation. .
SFI-AISFs definition of too late is flexible and changes depending on whether they are in the driving seat of the JNUSU or not! For instance in 2002, when the JNUSU was led by SFI-AISF, didnt the hunger strike on the Charter of Demands start on 11 September extend well into the third week of September? The SFI-AISF-led JNUSU of 2002-03 failed to organise any protest action or agitation whatsoever. Again last year, the agitation was conducted between 12th to 16th of September. .
How come 11-12 September wasnt too late for hunger strikes and struggles in an SFI-AISF-led JNUSU but 15 September is too late this year, when the JNUSU President is from AISA?! Remember that even to get the JNUSU to arrive at a decision for a Protest Demo on the 15th, the JNUSU President had to spend a week persuading the defunct General Secretary to do his constitutional duty and convene a Council Meeting, which was finally held on 11 September. .
Friends,the fact that the JNUSU President was from AISA made her the centre of a virulent attack from the SFI-AISF throughout the year. But the reason for this attack is not just a campus matter or a matter of sectarian rivalry alone. The CPI(M) and the SFI, although they call themselves Left, actually stand for turning the red flag into a red carpet for MNCs; for turning industrial and agricultural land into malls and multiplexes; for using the left banner to discipline and suppress the workers movement; for defending the draconian killer law AFSPA; for brutal police repression against students movement as seen recently in Jadavpur University. The AISA-led JNUSU, with with its genuine Left agenda, with its solidarity for the peoples movements from Manipur to Gurgaon, for students struggles for democracy from Jadavpur to Jamia, and its historic blow to .
