Kestrel savors a crispy snack parked on the fin of a Navajo...at FXE

While taking a couple of distant photos of this barred owl it suddenly became alerted and flew directly toward me making a catch just 15 ft. in front of me. Unfortunately I didn't have the camera set for a flight shot but did take a photo of the owl covering the catch from where I was standing before quickly backing away leaving it to enjoy the catch. I'm guessing this is one of the three spring owlets.

Thank you for viewing

The secrets of this negative eluded me with my Leitz enlarger. The foreground was pitch black, and the bridge was blown out; or so I thought. Obviously, I just wasn't aggressive enough with dodging and burning in. Modern software--I use Luminar--makes retrieving such detail a snap. It allows me to create images that I didn't know I had. I'm sure that's old news to some of you; but each time it happens to me, it's a pleasant surprise.

The view is from the main gait, with portcullis, looking across the moat to the magazine.

Really not that happy with this. The scale came out good but the turret and the back of the tank definitely need work. I thought I'd post it on here anyway and get some other opinions as well. Added a few people who's opinion I'd really like. Please comment if you fav.

Toyota FT-1

Andorinha-dos-beirados (Delichon urbicum)

I picked up this gem of a vintage Canon FT QL camera at an antique shop in New Norfolk, Tasmania. It was made in 1966 (yes even older than me!) and has a wonderful FL 50mm f1.4 lens that I can use on my DSLR with an adaptor. I might be brave enough to run a roll of film through it, but I suspect that the light seals on the back door are worn.

Here are a few of the 13 million bricks in Ft. Pulaski. How many modern masons could do this? A young Robert E. Lee was here as a 2nd Lieutenant during construction. The Howitzer cannons at Ft. Pulaski, a number of which can still be seen, were smooth-bore guns. When Union forces attacked with rifled Howitzers, the fort fell in less than two days.

From Wiki: The chestnut-colored woodpecker is found on the Caribbean side of Middle America from southern Veracruz in Mexico south through Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica to just into Panama's Bocas del Toro Province. It primarily inhabits the interior and edges of humid evergreen and semi-deciduous forests but is also found in mangroves and coastal scrub in some areas. It favors dense foliage even at the forest edge. In elevation it ranges from sea level to 1,000 m (3,300 ft) in Mexico and to 750 m (2,500 ft) in Costa Rica

The Full Cold Moon descends toward the Continental Divide with the Longs Peak group catching the rising sun, taken east of Lyons, Colorado. On the left is Mount Meeker (13,916 ft; 4,242 m), center is Longs Peak (14,259 ft; 4,346 m), and on the right is Mount Lady Washington (13,281 ft; 4,048 m), all in Rocky Mountain National Park.

The last of my family members have departed and returned to the Pacific Northwest, and we dwelling along the Front Range anticipate a few cold, icy mornings in the immediate days to come. The house feels rather empty. I had hoped to take the family hiking up to Dream Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park but the Shut Down prevailed and all roads into the Park were closed (although the Park remained technically open).

Technical notes: Two-shot panorama stitch that included the moon right where it is, and a third photo to properly expose the moon. Properly exposed moon was then blended into the panorama over the blown-out moon with layers and masks in Photoshop.

Happy New Year everyone! Looking forward to seeing the wonderful artistic work from everyone here in 2019. I continue to be impressed with the positive, friendly, constructive nature of the people in this digital community.

Mt Scott in the Horizon *Wichita Mtns Wildlife Refuge"

Ft Sill, OK

Ft. Pickens was built in 1834 to defend the Pensacola Bay (Florida) coastline from foreign invasion. This fort was used for over 100 years until missiles, airplanes and bombs made harbor forts obsolete.

Most of the fort consisted of gun emplacements both on top and within the walls. The granite semi-circles on the floor supported the great weightof the cast iron guns. Vents in the ceiling allowed the huge amounts of black powder ammunition to disperse. The canons had an effective range of about one mile.
