Worth an inspection. Not too common in the desert!

So tiny, almost invisible between panes of glass, a miniature confection of frost.

Frost

We had the heaviest frost we have had for a long time this morning. The temperature dropped to -1.3°C (29.6°F). A glorious sunny day has ensued although it is not particularly warm.

Hard Freeze allong a drainage canal in the field. Thanks for your visits, comments and faves. They are much appreciated. Happy New Year.

It is winter, so you can see slowly frost and snow.

I wish a Merry Christmas and a good all you slip in the new year.

A scene from last week's foray into winter two days after we had record high temperatures. A combination of hoar frost and snow adorn limber pine needles. Thankfully the majority of the aspen leaves appear to have survived the hard frost (2 days below freezing) and we are starting to see some color.

Yesterday (6 march 2021) My photo could be seen on the RTL4 news channel weather forecast ;-)

Assessing frost and freeze damage

On my way home (after a highly recommended haircut due to Covid limitations) I encountered this spectacular phenomenon; frost damage protection by sprinkling water over the fresh young new buds.

Have a good weekend ;-)

This is an old dead apple tree in our garden which we have not completely cut down as it has become a kind of garden sculpture!

Campbell creek at the Campbell park trailhead. Cold temperatures have flash frozen the creek. This shot was taken while standing in the middle of the creek.

One last pic of the frost flowers, on frostweed. Not such a great shot on its own merits, so I'm posting it separately, but it gives a feel for how these were seen in a patch of the Verbesina. I picked some of the seeds to plant in my own garden and am hoping that they germinate so that I can observe this on a more regular basis. The dittany frost flowers were not seen in a group like this-- they were onesies and twosies along the trail.
