Once a frontline London coach, DV428 (originally GGE128X) is seen ehre in Edinburgh in 1995 on service 100 from Dumfries, a long-established service, at that time still jointly worked by SMT (formerly Eastern Scottish) and Western.
Originally with parallelogram-shaped windows as a Dominant 3, in common with many such stablemates throughout SBg it was rebuilt with normal glazing for more general duties. Some of Western's rebuilds, such as this one, differed from many others throughout the group, in using these shallow flat glasses, allegedly the same as those fitted to Alexander conversions of Merc L608D minibuses. I always thought they worked quite well on the fairly low-built Dominant.
Although into the period of Stagecoach's ownership here, It is still wearing one of Western's many variants of black/grey/red/white, although plenty of Citylink yellow from its previous role is visible showing through around the front.
I liked these coaches and it's shame none of them were preserved. It would be a brave and wealthy man....

In Budapest during winter time? Feel like hitting the ice? Make sure you do not miss the visit to the largest outdoor skate rink in Europe - The City Park Ice Rink - briliant atmosphere and surroundings. Plus, one can always grab some hot red wine at the charming taverns nearby - goes well with crispy weather redish cheeks.
Budapest brisk winter evenings leave the seats empty - and the rink full. But hey - who wants to stay put on -20 ?! ;-)
Well for some reason - I did! :-)
At least for a moment.
Was looking for a place to gasp for some air when I spotted this pair of chairs.
And just when I was close enough - I noticed the ice topping.
Bummer - no sitting there for sure!
I kneeled down - and there it was - a lovely view that just had to be framed!
Sometimes changing the perspective makes the whole difference.

"The M2011 was built in 2011 by some of frontline security's top technicians in collaboration with operatives and air crew of the FSMF and FSAF, what they came up with was a incredibly reliable weapon with connections to the Browning M2 and the vulcan M61, it was designed to mounted to helicopters and aircraft."
The main things we have done for aircraft use are:
-Reinforced body,
-Larger charging handle
-Reinforced mounting.
Note on reverse: "3,7 cm Masch - Kanone May 17".
The M-Flak (3.7 cm Maschinenkanone Flak) was capable of firing between 250-300 rounds per minute, each with a muzzle velocity of 540 m/s. Since late 1915 M-Flak batteries defended balloons and important positions and installations. German flak units were part of the Air Service, whilst the majority of the Allied anti-aircraft units were part of the artillery.
This variant is the 3.7 cm M-Flak auf fahrbarer Bettung (on mobile bedding). Weight of the gun is given with 938 kg but you can see one of the removed wheels. I assume the other wheel is laying on the opposite side. So, the combat-ready gun had around 790 kg in firing position.
This photograph displays the "common" ammunition box and not the more impressive huge drum magazine.
The gun on mobile bedding was better fitting to frontline conditions than the heavier and more limited earlier version on "Räderlafette".
The gun was transported on limbers of (captured) Russian ammunition wagons. However, for transport in the trenches the gun was distributed in 7 loads. This was still too heavy for frontline use - therefore the S-Flak 3.7 cm was developed.

Tonight, the night before Halloween, marks what is known as Devil's Night in Detroit, Michigan.
On this night, for the past few decades, many characters take to the streets starting fires all over the city in vacant dwellings. This year's Devil's Night might be a pretty bad one with the current economic downturn, as well as record foreclosures.
These shots are of a suspicious dwelling fire from Devil's Night 2008.

A few hundred protesters began walking at noon to complete the four miles from Bourbonnais to the Kankakee County Courthouse. While sitting on the front lawn, they listened to activists talk about their experiences and advice for standing up against what they perceived as injustice. They then returned to their starting point for a round trip walk of about eight miles.
