These guys are deep fried alive, the oil later is used as ointment
(for rheumatism, so it is claimed). And, they don't become snacks, but they are brewed in hot water and the water is drank as some kind of tonic. So, when we are finally over with the corona virus don't be too happy, there are many more to come.
Abiding by the old rule that says "never slide down into anything too slippery to climb back out of", we declined to investigate further.
Pretty canyon though.
Perhaps Sil should have checked the Yelp reviews before trying out that new diner!

The rice turned out great - chicken cooked in garlic and diced with scrambled egg for the rice. Stir fried vegetables and a few chicken nuggets. I honestly couldn’t think of anything for dinner.

i steamed the cassava to partially cook before decanting into a frying pan of hot extra virgin olive oil
next time i'll decant the steamed cassava firstly onto kitchen roll paper to take up the excess moisture and then into the frying pan to help prevent the sizzle and splash when the steamed cassava hits the hot oil :)

The second day of my trip was so busy I didn't get a chance to take a daily photo until I stopped at a place called The Original Fried Pie Shop on my way back home. Sometimes called hand pies, they pretty popular through the south. This place makes them quite well, although they are rather large and too soft to eat without a knif and fork. This one has an apricot filling, and I managed to wait until I got home to photograph it. For 2016: one photo each day (126/366)

I was going to cook decent fried rice; had all the ingredients for it.... But alas, I was just too lazy, tired and HUNGRY to make any effort. And this is the result: super-hyper-lazy-fried-rice. I used whole grain basmati rice (cooked extra last night), an egg and half a bag of mixed salad (carrots, cabbage, radicchio, endive), seasoned with salt & pepper and just a little bit tomato ketchup. It wasn't bad... well, I was anyway too hungry to be bothered much.
