Detail of Japanese screen. Sandhill cranes come to Wisconsin (the first Taliesin) in the summer. The same cranes winter in the American Southwest. I wonder if he ever drew the connection between his migration and theirs?

It's a mystery. It's been said but not proven that cranes mate for life. Wright was married 3 times, and although he never married Martha Borthwick, he built Taliesin in Wisconsin for her. She was murdered there in 1914.

This screen (a reproduction- the original is in the archives) was in his third wife's day room at Taliesin West.
