OUR EARTH . . . I feel fragile today too

The consequence of moving. I felt as though it was all going to fall on me in my sleep.

My 50th birthday flowers from my brother-in-law and his family were delivered in this extraordinarily bashed box.

And when I say "delivered" I mean abandoned behind our car with no attempt to ring the doorbell (we were in) or put a card through the box (what they say they'll do when unable to deliver).

The flowers are somewhat bashed too - not surprisingly... many of the buds have simply broken off and the fuller flowers are bruised.

PCA 137 White on White

Dec 26 - Jan 9, 2010 (2 weeks)

Image Tag: pca137

Assignment:

Your assignment is to find or compose a scene where, as much as possible, the only color is white. That is to say, that the subject(s) in the photo is/are white. Wise use of lighting will provide all the necessary subtle gradations needed to create form and depth. The interpretation as to what is white is left to you. If you are unsure what is white then head down to the hardware store and ask for a sample of white paint. The assistant in the store will enlighten you to the wide definition of white. As I understand it, many members of the group have a new world of white just outside their door. The assignment should also provide a great opportunity to stay inside where it's warm. Here are some examples from flickr. You can see that abstract and minimalism are close at hand when dealing with only one color.

WIT

I took a walk this morning after clearing the driveway of the 2 inches of snow that fell overnight. White on white in a snow covered landscape is not hard to find but I didn't think that any of the images really popped out for me.

This one has the requisite interest - a small fragile grass and its shadow in the snow - but I wonder whether the grass image is interesting because the grass breaks the white (and therefore less appropriate for the assignment).

So here it is.

I used my new Christmas present camera with the new(ish) 10-24 lens that I bought (although the lens didn't need to be wide for this image). Shot in aperture priority with a 1/3 stop + on the exposure compensation so that the camera didn't underexpose the snow. I processed it in Lightroom. A 1x1 crop - the original was a portrait orientation so I cropped off about 1/3 of the bottom of it - snow and more snow.

fragile and numb

lost it's wings

cold with hatred

yet breathing

and hoping

one day,

she shall grow new wings

fragile, yet wild

the fragile beauty of a blackbirds egg

Still working on the dandelion theme, I wanted to develop my design, seeing where the idea would take me. This double page pulls out the concepts of 'fleeting moments' 'fragility' and 'etherality' from my original dandelion clock embroidery.

Colourful temporary fencing between the bus station and the old church next door, that seems to be undergoing some renovation.

This picture illustrates how I feel today ... with big stuff happening in my life, my protection is rather fragile and inadequate, and might crumble.

Broken ~ Lifehouse

The Broken clock is a comfort

It helps me sleep tonight

Maybe it can stop tomorrow

From stealing all my time

And I am here still waiting

Though I still have my doubts

I am damaged at best

Like you've already figured out

I'm falling apart

I'm barely breathing

With a broken heart

That's still beating

In the pain

There is healing

In your name

I find meaning

So I'm holding on (I'm holdin on)(I'm holdin on)

I'm barely holding on to you

The broken locks were a warning

You got inside my head

I tried my best to be guarded

I'm an open book instead

And I still see your reflection

Inside of my eyes

That are looking for purpose

They're still looking for life

I'm hanging on another day

Just to see what, you will throw my way

And I'm hanging on, to the words you say

You said that I will, will be okay

The broken light on the freeway

Left me here alone

I may have lost my way now

But I haven't forgotten my way home

Missed focus by just a bit, but I liked how the icicle picked up the blue against the cloud here.

Submitted to Photo Friday -- 'Fragile'

For Leeds group TOTW

a series i did in collaboration with The ARA Gallery in Dubai for the show " Through Eyes Of Africa's Children ". its a blessing that we raised over 160, 000 DHS for charity in one night with the helping of Christie's of New York. an over whelming experience. every scent raised has been sent to the families and children of Lesotho through "Habitat For Humanity"

the first one of the series. "The Fragile"

I miss the flowers...

It is one year since the major earthquake and devastating tsunami hit Northeastern Japan on March 11, 2011. We are amazed at the resilience of the Japanese people, but scars remain and even small aftershocks bring a grim reminder of how fragile life is when you are living on a fault line.

I wanted to mark this anniversary in some way and decided to do another video based on a song written last year after watching the reports from Japan, and similar to a video about Sendai that I did at that time. I had some pictures of cherry blossoms from Tohoku in my files, but no pictures to document the devastation along the coast. Fortunately, Haribote (Tetsulaw Kimura), was kind enough to let me use some images from his photostream and I want to thank him for his generosity.
