With the combination of a £3.8 million investment and a clear vision for the future, Barrhead Sports Centre has been transformed into a multi-purpose learning, leisure and business centre.
On October 20, 2013, Brooks members visited the Lugar Foundry in Arlington, TN–a remarkable combination of studios, workshops, and sculpture garden. Here they learned about lost-wax casting, wandered through an enchanting grove of bamboo, and to met the talented Lugar family.

My musical buddy's son Chris. He plays pretty good guitar too. He's working on a layer of wax. Getting ready for the foundry's last pour on thursday. I will be there thursday for for a celebration (farewell closing down) and the casting of my sculpture of Dad in bronze. The original done 30 years ago. Chris also worked on the life size version of the Queen on a horse, smaller version seen behind. I learned I can take blurry pictures just as well with the new camera so I had to adjust this a bit in photoshop.
The Foundry Bar held a quiz (year unknown), and raised £150.50 for Radio North Angus. In the picture were, from left - Jan Skelton, RNA; Liz McPherson, licensee Foundry Bar; John Mallory, Jim Allan and Brian Nicoll, organiser.
In the foundry, these were the only tracks to be seen - not even proper rails, and there were little trolleys which sat on the rails which appear to be used for placing and cooling castings. Visit to Hillside Workshops, 1st June 2007

The cannon foundry Jaigarh Fort had a massive wind tunnel that sucked air from the high mountains into its furnace creating temperatures as high as 2400 °F, the heated air would melt the metal. The molten metal would fill a reservoir chamber and pass into a cannon mold in the casting pit.
