Foundry as seen from the NS railroad tracks, Cleveland

Work in progress in the foundry at the Sandaoling mining complex. If you were lucky when passing by, you could hear the thump of the big hammers, and then it was definitely worth taking a peek inside.

Built for (and won) the Eurobricks Pirate Community Build. Pretty difficult to be limited to only 16x16 studs, but I did my best.

Anakin, Padme, R2-D2 and C-3PO have infiltrated the Separatist droid foundry on Geonosis and are ambushed by the Geonosians! Pull the pins to shut the door and drop the heroes onto the conveyor belt. Turn the wheel to move the conveyor belts and help them escape through the assembly line! Watch out for swinging robot arms, stomping presses, and chopping blades! Use the swiveling robot arm to assemble the droids. C-3PO has lost his head! Attach R2-D2's rocket boosters and turn the knob on the tower to have him fly to the rescue! Rearrange the assembly modules to create your own foundry layout.

Includes Anakin Skywalker, Padme, R2-D2, C-3PO, one Geonosian with stud shooter, and 4 battle droids.

The foundry for the Dinorwig slate quarry

Drab and dreary in comparison to the interstellar tankers, spacecraft in the giant orbital foundries were nonetheless essential. The intense heat and chemical corrosion would burn and erode any fancy paint job and so these ships were left in their bare metal.

Front to back are the following: a main-dynamo replacement carrier, a fuel-core carrier and a medium heat-exchanger tug.

National Coal Board's Vulcan Foundry "Austerity" 0-6-0ST No 33 (VF 5306/1945) passing Bankhouse crossing enroute from the Colliery to the exchange sidings at Southside - c.1969.

No 33 spent many years at Broomhill Colliery, but was sent to Ashington Works in 1966 for overhaul, and whilst there was fitted with a Giesel ejector (and an Ashington smoke eliminator). On completion VF 5306 moved to Whittle and was there from February 1966 to May 1972. It was out of use in late 1971 due to piston failure and returned to Ashington in May the following year for assessment, repairs were not effected. The loco was inspected by the Tanfield Railway with a view to it being preserved, but despite the boiler being in first class condition, this did not progress. It was scrapped in 1973.

Visited the foundry in Sunderland this afternoon where they're casting new railings for Sunderland Minster.

Specialist Castings Ltd., the former Jennings Foundry, has a long history on Wearside stretching back 80 years and this afternoon, they were pouring molten metal into moulds, re-creating the original railing design.

This has been achieved by making moulds from a section of the railing around the Minster grounds.

The work is part of the Townscape Heritage Scheme which is seeing a number of projects underway after Sunderland City Council was successfully awarded £1.9m from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

One of the projects underway is on the site of what was the historic village of Bishopwearmouth, part of the Bishopwearmouth Conservation Area.

The work, includes landscaping, new paving, lighting, street furniture and planting.

Established in 1570, the Whitechapel Bell Foundry is Britain's oldest manufacturing company. Specialising in the casting of church/tower bells, the foundry has been based at its current premises since 1738.

The foundry is most famous for casting Big Ben and the original Liberty Bell.

In December 2016, the foundry announced that they would cease activities at their Whitechapel Road site in May 2017 – the foundry buildings have been sold to an anonymous developer.

A deserted foundry workshop within Rathmalana locomotive works in Sri Lanka on a very hot February day.

I had arrived at Rathmalana during the workers lunch break which was extremely annoying as the foundry was like a ghost town.

Large scale production doesn't really take place here but lots of components are, including all the brake shoes for the locomotives and rolling stock. Bottom left shows a number of brake components recently poured and in their moulds left out to cool.

The Olsen Nauen Bell Foundry (Norwegian: Olsen Nauen Klokkestøperi) is a Norwegian bell foundry located in the municipality of Tønsberg. The foundry was established in 1844 by Ole Olsen, and it is headed today by the sixth generation of the Olsen Nauen family. The company is based at the Nauen farm in Sem and is Norway's only bell foundry.

The Olsen Nauen Bell Foundry produces glockenspiels, church bells, ship's bells, farm bells, and other products from bell metal, which is a specific alloy of copper and tin. The company has supplied bells to most Norwegian churches. Part of its production is exported, some to mission churches and also to other clients. Examples of carillons cast by Olsen Nauen include the ones in Oslo City Hall, Oslo Cathedral, Sem Town Hall in Tønsberg, and Trinity Church in Arendal. The company has also produced a 52-bell travelling carillon, which is the world's largest.

The Nauen farm also has a small museum with a display of old and new bells.

Taken from a photograph by R C Riley in my collection. The special train started headed by 32543 at Crystal Palace and ran to New Cross Gate where LTE 14 BENJAMIN DISRAELI worked to Rickmansworth with LTE 2 THOMAS LORD on the rear. After reversing at Rickmansworth the special then worked to Chesham., where LTE L48 took over for the return to Rickmansworth. LTE 2 headed to return to Crystal Palace with L14 at the rear.

32543 was a LBSCR C2 class, built by the Vulcan Foundry numbered 543 December 1901. Rebuilt to class C2X October 1915. SR B543, later 2543, after 1923. Renumbered 32543 August 1948 and withdrawn October 1960.

The activity of the workers in a small artisanal foundry of aluminium (Madagascar).

From the heart of Madagascar’s highlands comes a craft both timeless and essential.

In this part of the country, small artisanal foundries turn recycled aluminum from cans, scrap metal and bolts into pots, pans and decorative pieces like lemurs, zebus and baobabs.

Artisans melt aluminum in brick furnaces heated by charcoal, pour it into hand-carved sand molds and polish each piece to a brilliant shine.

This tradition began over a century ago when aluminum has been introduced to the town after World War I.

This legacy continues today in family-run workshops.
