Hand bound book with sheep roving cover. Each page lovingly waxed, marbled, sewn on-took me a couple of years to get this one right.

I've uploaded lots of my 'digital alchemy' here at Flickr, but very little of what I call my 'physical alchemy'. These are my assemblage and mixed media pieces that do in the physical world with collage and paint and glue, what I love to do in the digital world with PS and layers. Of course in the real world there is no 'undo' and I have to plan and think very carefully how my layers will go together. I had a real good rationale for the name of this when I picked it, but now I think it just means 'a device for looking at the invisible' or something paradoxical like that. this one is about 56" wide and 28" tall and I uploaded a treated detail of it a few days ago.

Bed slats, upholstery tacks, cardboard cutout from a Resistol hat box embellished with this and that, plastic wings.

Against the blue sky this piece looks imense. That is the intended illusion, it is only 10 inches tall. This was a work 100% made from found objects. The two washers where found in a parking lot badly rusted and the rods salvaged out my storage shed after many years. The base was a piece of shelving I once owned. This whimsical sculpture was really an aid to increase my painting skills. Allowing me to use attention to detail to get the most precise and professional paint job possible. I use it as a weight for my exceptionally important papers and bills. Please view my works for sale at www.jtbmetaldesigns.com.

Australian artist Julie Shiels sent a batch of great stencils on found furniture. Could only use a few but loved them all.
