The Hamilton District Chrysanthemum and Dahlia Society annual show includes dahlia blooms from the entire array of the ADS classification and is a highly impressive spectacle of size, colour, and form!
These blooms are “exhibition quality” and typically not found in local garden centres. There will also be a Design section of the Show which will highlight dahlias and chrysanthemums in various themes according to the Design Show Schedule. There is currently a judging school program running at Royal Botanical Gardens through GCO and many of the students are anxious to enter the show in order to achieve their credentials requirements.

At “We’re Here!” our challenge for the day is: “Pick a flower or branch or whatever, and put it in something that wasn't originally intended to be a vase.”
I don’t have my own garden, I don’t want to go to the store, and I thought better of raiding someone else’s flower beds. I decided to go for a ramble looking for weeds. I found this purple vetch, a rambler in its own right. A jelly jar seems an adequate vessel for my humble bouquet.
I’ll post this in the group Not A Vase and also at 120 pictures in 2020 for the category “Rambling.”
A large raptor around 55-70 cms tall and weighing around 1.5 - 2.4 kg and found throughout the year in India. They are probably the smallest of the 9 species of vultures found in India. The birds are very distinctive and easily recognizable unlike some of the other vultures which are confusing to id.
This one is an adult with the full white plumage and yellowish face and beak. Immatures tend to be totally brown with a greyish face. The birds are often seen around carcass dumpyards or in the deserts where dead cattle / animals are lying rotten. In our Rajasthan trip last week, we sighted 100+ of them all around the state - they are quite common there. In fact, Rajasthan has 7 of the 9 vultures found in India. Like most vultures, this is quite shy of people, but many a time, we found very close to the nomad settlements perched on the poles or walking around on the ground.

Found this tree in Bella Vista farm. Hills Council has put X mark on the tree. Guess soon the tree will get removed.
This is an old ring found on the streets of San Francisco. We lived there for about 23 years. The other side of the ring is the part that took the damage of being dropped in the urban jungle.
Found him/her? in the Limpopo Province bushveld, South Africa; the biggest jumping spider I've encountered, about 11mm across.

The mongoose lemur lives in dry forests on the island of Madagascar and in the humid forests on the islands of the Comoros. This makes the mongoose lemur one of only two lemurs found outside of Madagascar, though it is an introduced species in the Comoros.
They have declined sharply in numbers because of habitat destruction and hunting, and the International Union for Conservation of Nature has rated their conservation status as "critically endangered".

photograph I acquired from a large archive of negatives from a San Francisco Bay based commercial photographer taken mostly in the 1960s to 1970s.
I found this cute little hill above Schiers in the Swiss Alps. My inner child-like curiosity made us briefly stopped at the hill, on the way up to my hometown Schuders. Some fresh snow covered the hill, it looked like sugar frosting on a cake.
I processed a balanced HDR photo from three RAW exposures, carefully adjusted the color balance and curves, desaturated the image, and added a false color filter. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

Found this baby American Robin on the back of one of our patio chairs. Yes, they are old and rusty. :) It kept chirping, calling for mom who arrived right after if flew to the next chair and she had a big juicy bug for youngster, yum! :)
While downtown putting out food for feral cats, I started to put some water out and saw this face looking at me. It was a pretty small kitten who had hunkered in a small depression next to the building. I picked it up and it was very friendly and purred a lot. I don't think it was any of the area cats. I think someone saw the cats in the area and dumped it. I took it home and gave it a place in our 2nd bathroom with bed, food and water. It was very loving and wanted to be held. We gave it a small toy mouse and it played and played with it. We just couldn't have another cat, so today I loaded it up (with toy) and took it to the local shelter and gave them a nice donation for taking it in, I sure hope it finds a good home, someone will be getting a nice kitty.
We found this beautiful Red-faced Warbler while exploring Carr Canyon in the Huachucas of Southeastern Arizona. No matter how many times I see these little beauties it’s always exciting!

It wasn't the best of sunsets, but it was the best beach to be at for sunset, so I had fun trying to catch the beautiful colours. I failed miserably but this came close. There wasn't much flat wet sand to get reflections, so I took off my shoes, attached them to my camera bag and paddled at low tide . Much later I discovered my shoes weren't attached, and the thought of a half mile walk back to the cottage in bare feet , with resultant thistle punctures necessitated a mad dash to find them. Fortunately they hadn't drifted out to sea, so Lost and found , by Alabama 3 is perfect.

I got a green coloured roll of Kodak Tri-X 120. This film was produced in the late '80's and early '90's of the previous century. I used semi-stand development with Rodinal 1:100 (inversions first 30 seconds, 2 inversions halfway, total 60 minutes).
There were ten negatives size 6x7. Someone traveled to Turkey to photograph steam locomotives with an expensive camera. Cameras that shot in format 6x7 were expensive back then. Examples are Mamiya 7, Mamiya RZ67/RB67, Pentax 67 etc.
SO WHY WOULD SOMEONE GO TO TURKEY TO PHOTOGRAPH STEAM LOCOMOTIVES WITH CLEARLY AN EXPENSIVE CAMERA AND NOT DEVELOP THE FILM? I just wonder….
This locomotive, nr. 46052, was built in Germany in 1937 and was used in Turkey till the late '80's and maybe the early '90's. Weight is about 104 tons. 1900HP.
Boulders Beach is a sheltered beach made up of inlets between granite boulders, from which the name originated. It is located on the Cape Peninsula, in Simon's Town in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It is also commonly known as Boulders Bay. It is a popular tourist spot because of a colony of African penguins which settled there in 1982. Boulders Beach forms part of the Table Mountain National Park.
These African penguins are only found on the coastlines of Southern Africa (South Africa and Namibia). These penguins are currently endangered. As a result, the penguins are under the protection of the Cape Nature Conservation.
Although set in a residential area, it is one of the few sites where this vulnerable bird (Spheniscus demersus) can be observed at close range, wandering freely in a protected natural environment. From just two breeding pairs in 1982, the penguin colony has grown to about 3000 birds in recent years. This is partly due to the prohibition of commercial pelagic trawling in False Bay, which has increased the supply of sardines and anchovies, which form part of the penguins' diet. as well as the help from former SANDF naval officer, Van the Penguin Man
Bordered mainly by indigenous bush above the high-water mark on the one side, and the clear water of False Bay on the other, the area comprises several small sheltered bays, partially enclosed by granite boulders that are 540 million years old.
The most popular recreational spot is Boulders Beach, but the penguins are best viewed from Foxy Beach, where newly constructed boardwalks take visitors to within a few metres of the birds. It is also a famous swimming beach, although people are restricted to beaches adjacent to the penguin colony.
The bluebirds were present daily in our yard since back in January. We went on a trip for a week and they were gone when we returned. Disappointing! We were hoping for a nesting pair.

Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!
So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

There was a land when everything was fairly simple and straightforward. Like these beehives I found at the back of Newhall Valley Mill on a springtime walk with our dog. I processed this using Topaz Impression 2 and PicMonkey. Now I'm not finding it so easy to process in Topaz, as they seem to want everyone to use Topaz Studio and it won't load on my present computer.
SO I've bought a new computer - please bear with me while I try to get it up and running in the next few months :o)
I will try very hard to keep up with you all .. thanks for all your patience. Have a lovely stress free month or so !
