The revitalization of relations between Aberdeen Proving Ground and local community leaders took a step forward during a June 30 meeting at the Donaldson Brown Center in Port Deposit. Following his successful railway-enthusiast-focussed tour of Ontario in 2010, Bill Burns organised another similar tour in 2013. Departure date was June 15th; the destination this time was Quebec and Labrador. This would be the second time I had ventured beyond the British Isles without Sylvia accompanying me.
Saturday morning is one of the three mornings per week that Via's 'Ocean' train arrives at Montreal. Outbound, this runs as a combined service from Montreal as far as Matépedia, where it divides. One train goes to Gaspé; the other goes to Halifax. On their return journeys to Montreal, the two trains join at Matépedia. The locomotives run through, with all three running in multiple.
This makes a good picture, with all three facing forward. The formation of the train is always the same: the two Halifax locomotives, the Gaspé locomotive, the Gaspé coaches (five today), the Halifax coaches (eighteen today).
I panned this shot of the still-moving train to get the right composition; the result is fine for regular 7"x5" prints but is a little blurred if viewed at full-screen size.
