The North Fork Canyon, just outside Cody, Wyoming, was spectacular, with the North Fork Shoshone River cutting right through it. Most of the trees in the area had already lost their leaves, but the aspens along the river were still glowing gold—likely protected from frost by the warmer water. The combination of the winding road, shimmering river, and golden aspens made this stop an absolutely breathtaking view.

Having fun with forks.

First off, I hope everyone had a nice Christmas.

Taken a while back now, it is a bit different for me, but certainly not original. I was inspired by a great image by Volker Hahlbeck; one of his egg on fork shots can be seen here... www.flickr.com/photos/189890556@N02/52163520191/in/dateta... You shold have a look at some of his pasta shots. Very inspirational.

I have no idea as to who was the original person to shoot this subject, but many people have done variations of of the egg balanced on forks, but tat the time I had only seen Volker' images, and after seeing them, I just had to give it a shot. Shot on my countertop with all sorts of stuff propped up for a background and lighting, using flashlights.

With winter upon us, I may try shooting other kitchen utensils. I have done so in the past years ago and it can be quite fun. A vegetable steamer, a whisk, pretty much anything can make for interesting shots if you play with them long enough.

The idea of forks as the subject of a photo has always appealed to me and finally, today I followed through. For We're Here! who are looking at forks and for my POTD.

Nothing better than standing in the middle of the creek to capture a photo with the water rushing towards you. By now on my journey deep into the woods the light had improved and allowed me to grab this one. A favorite from 2021 to be sure. Five (5) photo stack. :) -H3

The Dupont Underground is an abandoned cable car station under Dupont Circle. it later got turned into a food court, but has been abandoned since the 90s. It has an art installation in part of it, but the rest is straight up urban darkness.

The assignment for the photo course this month was high key photography in the kitchen.

December 2024.

The Buffalo Fork River is a tributary of the Snake River and part of it forms a boundary of Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming. It has a reputation as a great place to fish, but the water is extremely low now. I liked the view of this huge s-curve and neighboring ranches.

Plastic forks.

Better viewed large and thank you for your favourites.

Forks... EXPLORE!! #435

Been after trying this for a while, as a lightning storm rolled over the Island from the mainland, we sat on the balcony over looking the sea waiting for the passing storm to come into view and head out to sea beyond us. Be easy on me, never tried this type of photography before but I was pleased with my amateur efforts catching the forks of lightning passing through the sky.

Kruger National Park

This fantastic little bird is a common resident in and around the Kruger National Park. Its drab black color does not attract much interest from passers-by but when you look beyond the color there is a world of intelligence and specialization. The drongo will often be found following the large herbivores as they move along grazing and browsing. These smart birds have figured out that the larger animals will flush insects from their hiding places in the grass allowing the drongos to swoop in and catch their prey.

The drongo has the ability to mimic calls of animals and it uses this skill to distract its hosts. For example, the dwarf mongoose has a number of different alarm calls for different predators. The drongo has learnt to imitate these calls. It will sit in trees above the foraging mongoose watching closely and waiting for one of them to catch something. At this point the drongo screeches the mimicked mongoose alarm call, sending the whole colony scattering for cover - leaving behind the food that they have just caught. The drongo then swoops in, picks up the abandoned food and heads back into the trees to enjoy the mongooses' hard earned meal.

I didn't think I'd be able to do this one as my spoons didn't seem very reflective! However, I buffed them up and I was surprised at the difference - HSoS!
