A quiet moment at Hague’s Cross, situated high above the River Hodder in the woods near the former Jesuit novitiate at Hodder Place (Stonyhurst). The monument commemorates William Hague, who tragically drowned here in April 1877, with this newer cross fixed to the mysterious ancient stone base back in 1910.

My friend Tobias and I have been on a two-day hike in the Palatinate Forest in begin of August, 2025. We climbed up this sandstone formation in the dark and with our headlamps on. The weather was windy and partly wet. But we really enjoyed the view and the mood up there. We would stay out for hiking and shooting for the whole day and would have a warm dinner and campfire in the evening and a good night sleep in our tents.

The forest didn’t feel quiet it felt like it was watching. Soft light slipped through the canopy, catching on moss, petals, and the curve of twisted roots that curled into something almost like a throne. It didn’t look placed… it looked grown like the earth shaped it with intention, winding and pulling until something beautiful and a little wild took form.
I didn’t sit on it alone.
There’s a certain kind of closeness that doesn’t need words the kind that settles deep and steady, like it was always meant to be there. Leaning into him feels effortless, like gravity itself decided this is where I belong. His presence is grounding, warm, a quiet kind of constant that makes everything else fade just a little into the background.
The throne holds that same energy.
It doesn’t just sit in the forest it belongs to it. Wrapped in roots and surrounded by soft grass and tiny blooms, it feels alive in its own way. Like something you don’t just use, but experience. Something meant for moments that linger a little longer, where time slows down and the world narrows to just this.
Around us, the forest softened everything. Small flowers scattered through the grass, delicate but persistent, weaving color into the green. Mushrooms tucked along the roots glowed softly, like quiet little secrets. Even the air felt warmer here, like the world paused just long enough to let us exist in it without interruption.
It wasn’t loud. It wasn’t dramatic.
Just quiet, steady, real.
And somehow… that made it feel like magic.

As a photographer, I wanted to capture the quiet beauty and peaceful atmosphere of a sunlit forest path. My goal was to highlight the magical effect of the light on the surroundings and emphasize the natural contrasts of light and shadow. The moment when the sun's rays broke through the dense canopy and illuminated the path was particularly inspiring for me.

Mein Ziel war es, die magische Wirkung des Lichts auf die Umgebung hervorzuheben und die natürlichen Kontraste von Licht und Schatten zu betonen. Der Moment, als die Sonnenstrahlen durch das dichte Blätterdach brachen und den Weg erleuchteten, war für mich besonders inspirierend.

In the heart of the Shadow-Bound Woods, where the light filters green and thick with old magic, stands the Elder Sentinel. It is not quite alive, nor entirely dead. Its bark is etched with the tales of centuries, and its massive, welcoming yet ominous branches seem poised to embrace or to stride away.
On nights when the twin moons shine full, the creatures of the wood whisper that the trees uproot their slumbering feet. They say the Elder Sentinel stirs first, its deep, empty knot of an "eye" surveying the realm before it begins its slow, deliberate march. The fog at its base is not just dew, but the breath of the awakening earth as it loosens its hold. This is a place where the forest's memory walks, and silence is the only appropriate reverence. If you listen closely, you might just hear the scrape of a root, pulling free from the soft, emerald moss.
